Meet Jennifer Aguirre

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jennifer Aguirre. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Jennifer, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Finding my purpose in photography came to me easy. When it comes to photographing, I love telling a story. I now take portraits of people; however, that interest started from my background in journalism in high school and college. In photojournalism, the goal was always to capture an authentic story through an image. I have translated those goals into the portraits and weddings that I document now. But what makes my heart really flutter is the aftermath of delivering a photo gallery. The reactions and praise truly do make me feel happy because we tend to forget the impact an image may have. Sometimes an image is took to remember a major chapter in our life, a feeling we want to revisit, or to remember an old loved one. Photos are important. They are a part of our life’s story that we get to share forever. Being the person to capture that, is a huge honor.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a Wedding & Portrait Photographer based in Dallas, Texas. I am really excited to be diving into new mediums of photography such as film and polaroids. This will be a special service I will be providing as an addition to digital images for those interested. This is a fun way of having photos both old school and new school while seeing your special day documented through different vibes. I will also be marketing bridal sessions and wedding license sessions as additional photo opportunities for those getting married. Instead of taking a selfie with your license, how about creating a session out of it! As my photo journey evolves, I get excited of the new ways I get to explore creativity within this field.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities I would focus on are: communication, camera settings, and staying in your own lane.

I say communication because learning to manage a project and communicating with your clients is extremely important. From the moment of inquiry to gallery delivery, it is important to keep client experience in mind in order to ensure that they loved everything about the process and will come back or recommend you.

Camera settings are important to learn. A camera is a tool and learning how to shoot in different manners can provide you with a variety of results. It will also ensure that you will know the best settings for whatever light that is thrown at you.

Stay in your own lane. This is important as we live in a world that revolves around social media where we are constantly comparing ourselves. If you simply stay in your lane and just have fun, that imposter syndrome will stay away.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I look forward to collaborating with more photographers in my area. I think it’s important to be a part of your area’s photography community. I look forward to discovering more photographer events and styled shoots for a chance to chat and shoot creative shots with others. Photogs can best reach me on instagram @byjenniferaguirre.
