Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jennifer Armour. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jennifer, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Until the age of 6, my entire family was my mom, my grandmother and me. We lived in a southern city. I attended a private Christian school from pre-k to 1st grade. My mother kept me busy with ballet, gymnastics and baton twirling classes. My mother was strict, and I was raised to be an obedient, polite southern girl.
After age 6 my mother married. Right after this I was transferred to public school. I was taken out of ballet, gymnastics and baton twirling. I enjoyed public school and made new friends easily. That same year, my stepfather was stationed to a Navy base in Maryland, we moved, and I was in my 3rd school of 1st grade. I made a new set of friends. Most of the kids at the Navy base school were from all over the country. This is where I learned that I had a strong southern accent. I was not made fun of for it, and I did not mind being different. We were all different. Third grade we moved back to our house in Jacksonville. I adjusted to being back in the city in the south. Seventh grade we moved to the country and yet another new school and new friends. I believe these changes gave me the confidence in myself that I would always be accepted by my peers no matter where I was.
During these young years I overcame different abuses from adults close to me. These obstacles during my development did not stop me from being a happy, kind child. I did not let negative influences define who I was. Resilient. I am at peace with everything that I have gone through because it made me who I am today.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I have sensitive skin and have had a respect and interest in herbs and natural remedies for many years. Christmas of 2014, my husband bought me a soap making kit and a candle making kit. I was beside myself with excitement. I was so touched by these gifts that I cried. He knows me so well. I became obsessed with making soap and candles. This passion quickly evolved into a great interest in creating natural skincare for myself. Over the years, I have met many people who, like me, have sensitive skin. They have used my soaps with great results. This motivated me to keep learning about skincare so I can completely control what I put on my skin and help others.
Over the last 10 years I have taken courses and read books on skin health, herbs, oils & butters, natural remedies, natural preserving methods and related materials.
A labor of love has come out of this experience. My Turmeric skincare kit. I have created a skincare routine that is easy for anyone to stick with. Since using this skincare routine, my red, sun-damaged chest has returned to its normal skin color and my skin looks amazing at 50. Turmeric has anti-inflammatory and anti-ageing properties and is great for evening out skin tone. This can help with dark circles, sun damage, uneven coloring, scars, minimizing wrinkles and much more. I have had great success with this product and great feedback from my customers.
Tranquil Suds is my skincare and candle company. Along with the skincare products we create all natural lip balms, room and linen sprays, beeswax candles, soy candles, wax melts, soaps and more.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Support from my family and my community has been key in keeping me motivated and focused on my goals. Time management and having access to quality courses and books have been monumental to my success. Knowledge is power and confidence goes along with that. Without those, I would not have made it this far.
Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
