Meet Jennifer Cazares

We recently connected with Jennifer Cazares and have shared our conversation below.

Jennifer, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
In the five years of capturing graduations and couple sessions, there came a point where picking up the camera for personal shots felt like a daunting task. The thrill was fading, and the routine was settling in. That was until the Fujifilm x100v entered the scene.

This camera, it’s not just a piece of tech for me, it’s a creativity elixir.
The magic lies in its simplicity. I can grab the camera, frame a moment, and voila – no post-processing headaches or technical intricacies like ISO and shutter speed. I have a newfound joy in photography! The spark that initially drew me to this art rekindled with each click of the shutter.

By having a camera that you enjoy shooting with, it’s a reminder that you don’t need a fancy destination to capture beauty. It’s in the ordinary life where hidden gems can be found. This little powerhouse not only made photography fun again, but encouraged me to experiment more freely.

So here’s to finding beauty in the everyday, to simplicity, and to a camera that not only captures moments, but revitalizes the love for doing so.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Currently, I am a Portrait and Couple Photographer based in San Antonio, TX and Beyond.

Being a photographer allows me to make genuine connections and instill confidence in my clients no matter the occasion. It is my job to create a safe environment that is fun and stress-free while they embrace who they authentically are.

Everyone has a story, no matter the age. It brings me such joy that I am able to capture my client’s milestones and celebrate their achievements with them so they are able to share them with their loved ones through photography.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
For anyone that is this looking to expand their hobby into a business, I believe having these three skills is the foundation to a successful launch. 1. Technical Proficiency:
Knowing your gear inside out is crucial. It empowers you to translate your creative vision into a tangible image. Regularly experiment with your camera settings. Understand the golden triangle of photography which are aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. Within time, experimenting will help you will find a style that you enjoy the most and create your branding around it.

2. Composition Skills:
Composition is the language of visual storytelling. It transforms the ordinary into something extraordinary. Study composition techniques beyond the rule of thirds and centering your subject. Analyze the photos that make your heart skip a beat and test them out when you are out in the field.

3. People Skills:
In this industry, it’s not just about capturing moments; it’s about capturing connections. Building a rapport with your clients helps create a sense of authenticity to your photos. Be the friendliest version of you. Make your clients feel like they’re hanging out with a friend and not just posing for photos. Talk, laugh, and let the magic happen.

Remember, the journey is just as important as the destination. Embrace challenges, learn from every shoot, and enjoy the process of becoming the photographer you are destined to be!

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
As I embarked on my journey from the DFW Metroplex to San Antonio a year ago, my photography business took a temporary break. I needed time to settle into the rhythm of this city. Now, I’m ready to not only dive back into the world of photography, but also, to collaborate and connect with like-minded souls.

I’m on the lookout for fellow creatives who share the same passion for photography and an eagerness to experiment. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting your journey, if you find joy in freezing moments and exploring the artistry of editorial shots, I want to meet you!

Because photography is not just about photos; it’s about the stories we tell, the connections we make, and the fun we have along the way. I’m itching to experiment, to push boundaries, and to create magic together.
