Meet Jennifer Crowe

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jennifer Crowe. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Jennifer, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

In 7th grade, I decided I wanted to be a musician when I grew up. Whether that be a music teacher, a producer, a performer artist, I just knew that I wanted to work in music. As I started taking my music lessons and my practice sessions really seriously to prepare for college auditions, of course so many people told me I should reconsider majoring in music. So many people told me that you can’t make a living doing music. So many people asked me, “are you sure you don’t want to go into business or nursing or something practical that will pay the bills?” Even after I graduated and started working as a music teacher, people would ask me, “So when are you doing to get a real job?” “You’re still doing that music thing?” Their doubt that I could be successful only pushed me harder and here I am today, still not looking back or considering getting a “real job”!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

As mentioned earlier, I graduated with my degree in Music in 2014 and taught private music lessons in guitar, piano, and voice for nearly ten years. In 2021, I realized that I was interested in music production and engineering, and on a whim, applied to the LA Film School where I earned my degree in Music Production in 2023. My time at the LA Film School really helped me discover and dive deep into my passion for creating music from scratch and helping other artists. I really felt like I could let me creativity run free when I was working on the music of other artists and wasn’t beating myself up over my own lyrics and wondering if they were good enough.

Shortly after I graduated, I became pregnant with my daughter, Skye, and I had to take a hiatus, but I’ve recently come back strong! My husband and I recently opened our own business, Crowe’s Nest Productions, where we provide full production services for both local artists and artists all over the world as well as mixing, mastering, songwriting, and teaching. I get to do what I love from the comfort of my own home taking care of my baby girl!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1. Set specific goals. Its easy to say “I want to become a successful musician” but unless you’re making specific goals and taking specific steps to meet those goals, its easy to get distracted by just shooting in every direction and hoping something sticks. Having a plan helps make sure things are getting done and moving in the right direction!

2. Learn something every day!
There are SO many resources out there and so many other people who have gone through what you’re hoping to go through. Read blogs, watch YouTube videos, watch TikTok videos. Aim to learn something new every day and watch your yourself become so much more knowledgeable in your field.

3. Do NOT give up! There are going to be times when you want to give up but then there is a 100% chance you won’t meet your goals. If something isn’t working, reassess and try again. Little progress is still progress and I believe anyone can achieve what they want to achieve, you just have to do it and believe in yourself.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Absolutely! I am always looking for people in collaborate with! Music is so much more fun when there are other people involved. Right now, I would love to be approached by songwriters who want to turn their ideas or written songs into a full production. It’s amazing seeing a song come from a voice note on your phone to a full song that you hear on Spotify. I love working in all genres but specifically dark pop!
