Meet Jennifer Hewitt

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jennifer Hewitt. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Jennifer with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Work ethic – definitely get this from my parents. As a young person, we had a farm and I was engulfed in sports (soccer and basketball. Even though we did not live on the farm, I was out at the farm helping my dad bail hay, garden, and drive tractors. Both parents instilled in me that you had to work hard to get what you wanted. Within the business, I try to model accountability, reliability, and communication. I do my best to know ALL members names.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Jennifer (go by Jenn). I am originally from Collinsville, IL. I graduated with my BS in Athletic Training from McKendree University. We moved to Omaha, NE in 2005. I worked at College of St. Mary 2006-2009. While there, I received my MA in Teaching and MS in Education. In 2010, I started at Omaha Public Schools as an Elementary PE teacher. Decided I wanted to help at a different level, went back to school at UNO for M.Ed Administration and Supervision. Once I completed my education at UNO, I became a Dean at Omaha North High School. This gave me a new love for education, students and families. An opportunity came across my path that my husband and I talked long and hard about. This opportunity is my love and passion – Motivera – athlete training, adult fitness, personal training, and gym memberships. I’m blessed to be able to work and inspire young athletes and adults about fitness. I am so exited to be able to spread my knowledge, love and passion. When someone signs up with Motivera, you are now a part of our family.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Owning any type of business is not easy. We opened December 2018, celebrated our 1 year anniversary in December 2019 and then Covid occurred. I truly did not think we were going to make it through 2020. Here we are. So resilience and/or Hardiness are high on the important qualities.

Definitely very passionate about fitness and educating people the importance of movement. We strive to keep up with todays research based fitness education. Continued education is extremely important as fitness is always evolving.

Community – to be a part of a community is one thing – to build a genuine community is another and can be challenging. This is not an easy one to describe either. This definitely took a few years – finding the right people to work for you with the same vision and passion. I could not be where I am today without the trainers I have as a part of my family. Rachel, Courtney, and Jess are amazing. They have my back as much as I have theirs.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I will bring this question back to the community within Motivera. This includes my husband, daughter, son, daughter-in-law – the trainers at Motivera – clients – members – athletes. Everyone has an important impact on helping Motivera overcome challenges and build essential skills. We have several business owners within Motivera – the simplest conversations with clients/members sometimes are the most helpful without them even realizing they are helping. Athletes are always giving feedback about their experience at Motivera.

The continued support of my husband, daughter, son and daughter-in-law are without saying – AMAZING.

And honestly, I wouldn’t be where I am today without the trainers.

All of them spread the word about Motivera. The power of “word of mouth” is more than one knows.
