We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jennifer Hoffman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience was forged through a bold spirit and a fearless determination that took root early in life. From a young age, I was a go-getter, never afraid to chase big dreams. After graduating college, I knew Ohio wasn’t where my story would stay—I wanted to see the world. Night after night, I applied for countless jobs until, at just 21, I landed an incredible opportunity in Arizona planning and designing high-end weddings. I had little experience, knew no one in the state, and could barely place Arizona on a map, but that didn’t stop me I packed up all my belongings, secured an apartment online, shipped my car, and arrived with nothing but ambition and grit. Failure wasn’t an option—I refused to let moving back to Ohio be my outcome. With no help, no network, and only my own drive to rely on, I built a new life and career from the ground up, proving that my resilience was as much a choice as it was a strength. I continue to live like this even after 16 years of experience. I work just as hard if not harder each year.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Hello everyone, I’m Jennifer Hoffman—the founder and owner of Hoffwell Living. I hail from a small town in Columbus (well, Marysville), Ohio, and from an early age I knew I wanted to explore the world while keeping my Midwestern roots close to my heart .
I kicked off my career in the beauty industry, planning and executing events for one of the nation’s leading cosmetics brands—Bare Escentuals—where I discovered my passion for crafting immersive, brand-defining experiences. That passion took me to Phoenix, where I designed weddings and social events across Scottsdale, Phoenix, and Sedona working with top-tier venues like The Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons, Fairmont, Waldorf Astoria, and JW Marriott.
I then dedicated a decade to luxury resort event planning and conference services in Scottsdale and San Diego—growing in hospitality, operations, and guest experience expertise . Following that, I took a detour into senior living placement at Aegis Living—because helping people transition into a beautiful next chapter of life became deeply meaningful to me .
After more than 15 years refining my craft—through event planning/design, negotiations, vendor selection, and beyond—I launched Hoffwell Living in 2019. We’re a planning, production, and design company grounded in creativity, connection, and storytelling. Based in Seattle, we often travel to bring imaginative events to life across the country .
At Hoffwell, our approach interweaves strategic precision with unexpected artistic vision. Whether it’s a fairytale wedding or a modern gathering, We pour creative energy into every detail so the experience feels authentic, meaningful, and beautifully executed .
We are proud to be a woman-owned, boutique wedding and event planning firm with glowing accolades. Our services—spanning full-service planning to day-of coordination, venue and vendor guidance, design & styling, budgeting, timelines, and more—are tailored to make each event uniquely reflective of our clients’ vision and personality .
Our clients often say we turn dreams into reality with ease and warmth:
“She was so thoughtful… the day-of was completely seamless…”
“She understood where we wanted to go big and where we wanted to save…”
“I never want to plan another wedding—but if I had to, I’d hire Jennifer again and again and again.”
To me, every event is more than a celebration—it’s an opportunity to build genuine relationships, elevate stories, and create memories that last long after the final dance.
Thank you for letting me share my journey and the heart behind Hoffwell Living.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, I’d say the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been:
Resilience & Grit – The ability to keep moving forward when things feel uncertain or uncomfortable has shaped every chapter of my career. Moving across the country at 21, working in industries I’d never been in before, and building a business from scratch all required an unwavering belief that I could figure it out as I went.
Relationship Building – So much of my success has come from genuinely connecting with people—whether it was clients, vendors, mentors, or colleagues. Those relationships didn’t just open doors; they built trust, created opportunities, and made the work more joyful.
Creative Problem-Solving – In events, things rarely go exactly as planned. The ability to stay calm, think outside the box, and find beautiful, functional solutions quickly has been key to delivering great experiences no matter the challenge.
For those early in their professional journey, my advice is this:
Say yes to opportunities—even the ones that scare you or feel bigger than your current skill set. You’ll grow into them faster than you think. Don’t wait to have all the answers before starting; momentum will teach you more than hesitation ever will. And above all, treat every interaction like it matters—because it does. People remember how you make them feel, and that reputation will carry you far.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
Even though my parents weren’t thrilled about me moving so far away, they never let that stop them from supporting me wholeheartedly—they were proud of my courage, visited whenever they could, and found countless ways to show their love from afar.
