We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jennifer Lamden. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jennifer below.
Hi Jennifer, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I’d have to say my work ethic comes from within. The dream to build my own business and creating products that people love, provides me with the stamina to keep going. Staying true to yourself and doing what you love helps me get through the long hours and late nights with a little humor thrown in!
I want my business to be successful so I continue to educate myself, take new risks and learning new equipment and techniques to continue to provide unique and creative products that my customers have come to love.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
After growing my Embroidery/Monogramming business, my next goal was to offer wood gifts. Purchasing new equipment in the middle of a pandemic felt risky and the state of the world was looking very bleak, but I did it anyway. We had plenty of time on our hands and learning a new skill was very therapeutic.
Introducing our new wood gifts line really took off. Two years later the business had taken over the house and garage and we knew it was time to find a property with more room and a real workshop. Having found, and relocating to our new piece of heaven, we have now decided to take on another risk/expansion and purchase a laser.
Adding another facet to the business by being able to offer an additional line of new products and gifts feels amazing!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three skills I have found important on my journey are technology, continued education and the art of customer service. These three skills may sound easy to come by, but also require a great deal of time.
Technology is ever evolving, finding time to learn, research, along with hands-on experience to carry out using new technology is empowering and fulfilling.
Continued education enables you to stay ahead of the game, evolve with the times and gain more knowledge of the industry you choose to learn more about.
The art of customer service involves listening to what the customer is asking for and envisioning, understanding their needs and providing them with a quality unique product that keeps them coming back.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shout-out for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
Without the help of my amazing husband, David, I would not have reached this point.
My husband is my biggest fan, who has taught me how to take risks and has supported me through the discouraging times. He has taken on the woodworking side of the business (in addition to his day job) which allows me to create the designs I envision for new products. His side hustle skills and love of woodworking has allowed us to continue building my business and we look forward to expanding further with the addition of our new laser.
David’s love, support and encouragement has helped me bring a little dream to reality and a business that is thriving.
