We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jennifer Lund a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jennifer, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
I think it comes from my family. They always taught me to stay positive and theres always an opportunity to turn things around, and i’ve made sure to apply that in all aspects of my life, and remember that in my business. When things get hard, I stay optimistic and think about things that I have already tried and things I have yet to try.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I have always loved being in nature, and for as long as I can remember I have wanted to start my own outdoor brand. I wanted it to be special and stand out, I had ideas, lots of them, but no experience in business whatsoever. One day I just decided to just jump in. I run Woodline Apparel by myself from the website to emails, shipping, marketing, ordering, ideas for new apparel, all of it! I wanted it to be unique and have a fun retro feel, but also work towards being as eco-conscious as possible. Most of our tee’s are organic cotton sustainably made. All of our products are shipped in eco-friendly packaging down to the paper the labels are printed on. Woodline also features unique prints with a Myth’s and Mysteries of the National Parks Collections as well as fun nature pun apparel. It’s exciting to build on something that I’ve wanted my whole life, and I hope one day that I can do it full-time!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back I would say that the three qualities that have been most impactful on this journey have been positivity, it takes a lot of time and research, and some wins and losses but if you remain positive and remind your self why you started in the first place, and what you are working towards, it’s all worth it. Second, self-belief, I had no idea whatsoever how to run a business or where to start, let alone build a website, make contacts for whole sale companies, finding the right products, printing places, graphic designers, but I did it! and lastly, patience, small business takes time to grow flourish, put in the time and trust in your products and brand.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was to teach my how powerful the outdoors is for a person, how much it can mean and what it can do. We would often going on camping trips up the east coast and i’ll never forget the memories we made and how those times cemented my love for nature and ultimately my choice to open Woodline Apparel.
