We were lucky to catch up with Jennifer Lynch recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jennifer, thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.
“Be willing to see the good qualities in someone or something else.”
“Serving others is a natural antidepressant.”
I believe these two statements immensely. I’ve practiced this and I can give testimony that it is completely true.
While serving the children that are represented by CASA of Travis County I found myself wanting to never stop volunteering. I was helping children find permanency. The more cases I took and the more I learned of their needs, I felt I wanted to do more.
Seeing the children become hopeful and unstuck from negative feelings filled my soul. Giving of my time, resources and creativity felt so good. I thought, “I never want to stop doing this!”
I wanted to create more awareness for CASA of Travis county, so I created a product line called You Are Good. I sell clothing, hats and stationary with the most precious little wings imprinted on the items along with the words “you are good”.
I’ve also written a children’s book, “Livi and Grace”
I created the products as a way to create awareness for CASA and to help them financially. I give a percentage of my proceeds back to CASA.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’ve been an advocate for children who have been abused and/or neglected and are now in the court system. I volunteer with CASA of Travis county and now rolling into my 20th year. Through out this journey of advocating in the courtroom I felt I wanted to do more.
Therefore, I created a brand called You Are Good. The logo is a small pair of wings with the tag line, “you are good.”The tag line came about from telling my CASA children “you are good” on every new case. So many children would ask me, “ why do you like me, or why are you helping me?” I’ve had some really tough cases where young children didn’t want to live. They’d never heard positive affirmations or seen kindness. I learned that these three small words make a huge impact. I received such positive reactions of smiles, hugs and giggles. I thought why not put this on shirts, hats, notecards and stickers and let everyone feel good.
This was also a great opportunity to create awareness for CASA of Travis county. I give a percentage of my profits back to CASA. When buyers hear this they ask about the organization and I gladly tell them ! So when you see someone wearing those wings out there in the world , congratulate them and tell them “you are good.”

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I’m a very creative person, self motivated and very persistent. I’m also not afraid to ask for help. Embarking on a new endeavor can be exciting and overwhelming.
My best advice is to reach out to others who are in the same field. Intern or volunteer in that space and see if it’s everything you thought it would be. Ask a lot of questions and get different opinions. Look at the pros and cons while thinking critically and communicating clearly.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The Bible.
The Bible and the many Bible studies I’ve participated in have played a huge role in my life. Studying, learning, growing and really understanding the scriptures has given me such a strong foundation for navigating life.
The Bible is the place I turn to, to find the answers. Role models can be found in every book. We see so many types of people and all are beloved. All are encouraged to know that “things will be ok”.
I want to be an encourager. I want to help others see their own potential, gifts and good qualities.
I want others to remember Faith. If you have faith and give your anxieties to God, it makes for a better day and a much better nights sleep!
