We recently connected with Jennifer Meza and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
I live a busy life trying to make sure my schedule is booked and moving. I had gone through a difficult time in my life where I was basically forced to slow down and that broke me. I found that balancing a healthy lifestyle and developing healthy habits is crucial for myself and my career. My self-care has become part of my routine and what really helps me deal with anxiety and any hardships in my life. I spend time with family and friends, I go to the gym 4-5 days a week, eat healthy (mostly). I like to make time each week to either go to a park or a beach because it brings me peace. It is also very important for me to pray and keep God close throughout my journey. When we’re out of balance we become cranky, lazy and complacent. I want more for myself, so I’m going to give myself every edge possible and perform my best as often as possible.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Jennifer Meza and I’m an actor, singer, and dancer. I have also dabbled in some production and directing as well! At the end of the day I would just consider myself a “creative”, I like creating and performing regardless of the art. I have always been very passionate about music, most of my family members are musicians and that alone inspires me. I love singing and dancing, it helped me come out of my bubble as a kid. I eventually explored acting and theater where I learned that I wanted to be anywhere in and around a production. I’m so grateful that I can say I have been on many sets in film and TV, and I’m excited to explore what’s to come and where it will take me!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three qualities I feel were most impactful in my journey so far is to network, have drive and persevere. Many times I have to remind myself I will fail and fail again and I cannot let that discourage me because I can only grow and learn from it. We can’t forget to remember we have control in the choices we make and the direction we take. In this industry, It really is about the people you know, not only can you learn so much from others but there is always a possibility for opportunity.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
I am proud of my growth in the past 12 months! I did a short film, I was the main lead in a Music Video, I started doing auditions/submissions and focused on networking. Building the right connections and getting my name out there has really helped me more recently. However, During the actors strike, I had to depend on myself fully for work and growth in every way because production was down. So I think it is great to know people who can help you find work and also have the ability to move and create on your own. There is so much to improve always, I am a student first, but I am happy and grateful for everything so far.
