Meet Jennifer Miranda

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jennifer Miranda. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jennifer below.

Jennifer, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
i am able to keep creativity alive by practicing regularly! I am always staying curious, and seeking inspiration. I love to collaborate with others, and I allow myself the freedom to explore and make mistakes. most importantly, i prioritize self-care! I try not to put too much pressure on my craft so I can keep it fun, I never want to feel like designing is something “i have to do” it’s something “I get to do”.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a mom to 4 amazing kids and a wife to an amazing Man! But let’s go back…. I started working full time straight out of high school as a retail buyer and merchandiser. I was learning all about retail branding at the highest level right from the jump, hands on experience! After having our second child I learned that a full time job and full time mom was an insanely difficult task and figured that I could earn more and work less if I was able to start my own consulting business.

Fast forward to today, i am able to work from the comfort of my own home. I make my own hours, start after school drop off & make sure I’m done by afternoon pick up.

Being a mom is such a rewarding job, but as any mom knows, we go so hard for other people most of the time. I love that my brand and website design business is something that’s just mine, outside of the mom role. And I’m so thankful to have this creative outlet.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My background in buying and merchandising opened me up to so many different avenues that I might not have got in college. I was in meetings with lead designers and got to see brands being built from ground up.

I’ve always been determined. Outgoing, and optimistic. The glass was always half full to me (even when it wasn’t)

I never stop learning and teaching myself new skills. I stay up to date on design trends and I love studying the winners of all the latest design awards.

How would you describe your ideal client?
A seasoned business owner (3+yrs) who knows exactly what they want in their head, but doesn’t have the technical skills to get that design in a computer. I love when clients can describe to me what they want/need and I can paint them that picture digitally.

I love working with people who value their time. They know they probably could do what I do, but it would take them a year to finish it, so they hire me to get the job done in a few weeks.
