We recently connected with Jennifer Salcedo and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Just life and it’s weird (sometime very painful) way to show you the right path…
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I create memories, candid moments for couples on their wedding day. Most people don’t understand my role at all, I am some sort of an Executive Producer, but for weddings & events. Think about creating an escenario and atmosphere to celebrate with family and friends, that will accommodate everyones needs (or almost everyone).
The most impressive part of my job is: I have never imagined being a wedding planner. I believe that, this career chose me and transformed me (for the best).
I started in the world of weddings when I was working for the Melia hotels in Puerto Rico. I am divorced and never imagined that I would fall in love with this industry. I remember the first time that while I was working for the groups and conventions department, one of the managers told me: come on, let’s go to a ceremony on the beach. Inside I laughed and thought: “how ridiculous”, but as soon as the couple began to share their vows, I began to cry. From that day everything began to change for me and the rest is history. Now I am a wedding planner and I am extremely grateful to have found a career that allows me to work with so much passion and love. It is incredible satisfying to be able to design and create scenarios that come to reality and to surpass my couples expectations.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
knowledge is power so, getting constantly educated and up to date is super important. Listen to your client and get to know their essence, it helps you connect with then and keeping you being emphatic. Be genuine and honest, you make the best business out of honesty.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
Pricing & rates, but I always constantly remind myself that, if a client already booked my services with my desired rate, why do I have to doubt myself?
