Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jennifer Vigoa. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Jennifer with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic comes from my parents. Growing up I started dancing at the age of 2. Eventually I started dancing competitively, and anyone who has ever done competitive sports knows the uniform or costumes in this case are not cheap. Not to mention traveling to competitions and the lodging that goes with it. With all that being said my parents did everything they could to pay for the dance classes, private lessons, costumes, and travel that goes with it. I remember so vividly that my mom would clean the dance studio that we danced at on Sundays. We would get there in the afternoons after church and my Sister + I would help my mom (as best we could) help my mom clean the studio. We also used to have to help my mom clean the house on Saturdays before we did anything with friends or if we wanted to go anywhere. We learned hard work from a very young age and that you have to work for what you want! This translates to my life now more so than ever and especially being a mom of 2 it is so important to instill this in our children, not everything can be handed to you!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My main focus is real estate. I help Buyers, Sellers, Tenants, and Landlords. I do residential property management, anything from checking in on my clients homes while they are gone to managing and hosting an Airbnb in Boca full time! I love meeting new people and developing relationships, because at the end of the day I am working to build a relationship and gain your trust in hiring/working with me to guide you through your real estate transactions. Helping people is my true passion and I find that I am rather good at it. I am always willing to go above and beyond for my clients and help them reach their goals. One of my favorite parts is getting to hear the many pieces of their puzzle to help them see the bigger picture and ultimately help them reach their goal(s). Real estate in general can be very exciting,. I describe it to people as the most crazy roller coaster you’ve ever been on. One second everything can be going smoothly – or you’re just taking off from the start of the roller coaster, then hit hit a problem int he transaction that takes strategy and ultimately trying to keep the deal together – hitting several back to back hills and loops. It can be crazy but also very rewarding and that’s what keeps it exciting, you never have the same day.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Having a personality and being a “people person”, communication, and having negotiating skills.
Being a people person comes from my years in hospitality. This experience has built the foundation for so many skills in my business. Having this background has given me the ability to understand body language, communicate clearly which is another skill within my business and overall give me the experience of dealing with so many different types of personalities.
Negotiation skills definitely improve over time but they are crucial in real estate. Having the ability to think outside of the box or “un-traditionally” can help save a deal or create an opportunity you didn’t even know existed.
My advice to anyone wanting or just getting into real estate is you have to understand it is HARD. Traditionally they used to say 3-6 months to get going. It has become so competitive that I would say at least a year now to get going unless you have someone who is feeding you leads or working with a team. Building your business as a solo agent takes time and you have to think of it as a farmer who is planting the seeds and you’re waiting for everything to come to fruition. It takes time and patience. You definitely need thick skin!

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was teach me work ethic and that nothing is ever just handed to you and you have to work hard!
