Meet Jennifer Weaver

We were lucky to catch up with Jennifer Weaver recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jennifer, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Living with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has been a journey filled with challenges, but through those trials, I’ve discovered a profound sense of purpose. When I was first diagnosed with RA, I felt overwhelmed by grief and uncertainty about what the future holds. It was a difficult time, both physically and emotionally. I felt alone and as if my life had no purpose. However, as I learned to navigate life with RA, I found that my experiences could be a source of inspiration and support for others facing similar struggles.

One of the key ways I found purpose was through advocacy and raising awareness about RA and other chronic illnesses. I realized that by sharing my story, I could help educate others about the realities of living with these conditions and advocate for better patient support and resources. Whether it’s through speaking on social platforms, writing, or participating in support groups, I’ve found immense fulfillment in making a positive impact in the lives of others.

Additionally, I’ve found purpose in supporting others through their own health journeys. Having experienced the ups and downs of managing a chronic illness, I understand the importance of having a solid support system. Whether it’s lending an empathetic ear, providing practical advice, or simply offering words of encouragement, I strive to be there for others who are going through similar challenges. Building connections with fellow patients and caregivers has been incredibly rewarding, and knowing that I can make a difference in someone else’s life brings me a sense of purpose and fulfillment.

Through my journey with chronic illness, I’ve learned that even amid adversity, there is always an opportunity to find purpose and meaning. By embracing my experiences and using them to support others, I’ve turned my struggles into a source of strength and inspiration. Though living with my conditions presents its challenges, it has also given me a sense of purpose that I wouldn’t trade for anything.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I live with rheumatoid arthritis, pustular psoriasis, IBS, alopecia areata, and anxiety. I strive to use my experiences to support and encourage those I come in contact with. As a podcast host, my story is about resilience, empathy, and a deep commitment to supporting those with chronic illnesses. Your journey with my own chronic illness has ignited a passion within me to uplift and empower others facing similar challenges. My heart truly belongs to this cause, and I have dedicated myself professionally to making a difference in the lives of those in the chronic illness community.

I am the driving force behind the podcast “My Spoonie Sisters,” where I host stories from special guests who share their experiences and insights. The podcast serves as a platform for empowerment, aiming to provide a sense of solidarity and understanding for listeners navigating life with chronic illnesses.

The concept of “spoons” is central to the podcast and message. Understanding that energy levels can fade faster for those with chronic illnesses, you advocate for being purposeful with the limited “spoons” allotted to each day. By sharing stories and discussing a wide range of topics, from autoinflammatory disease to anxiety and even sex therapy, you create a space where listeners can find validation, support, and practical advice.

My goal is to connect people within the chronic illness community and equip them with the support and tools they need to live fuller, more empowered lives. I understand the importance of community and strive to foster a sense of belonging and camaraderie among your listeners.

I have expanded my mission beyond the podcast by launching the My Spoonie Sisters Etsy shop. Here, I sell stickers and magnets featuring uplifting and empowering designs, with proceeds supporting the podcast and its initiatives. This tie-in helps fund the show and serves as a tangible reminder of the community and support network.

In summary, my story as a podcast host is one of compassion, resilience, and unwavering dedication to supporting those living with chronic illnesses. Through “My Spoonie Sisters,” you’re making a meaningful impact, one story at a time, and providing a beacon of hope for listeners worldwide.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My most impactful qualities have been my faith, resilience, and grit. These qualities have sustained me, enabling me to persist in advocating for better treatments and answers, ultimately leading to an improved quality of life.

For those embarking on their health journey, my advice is to acknowledge and navigate your grief mindfully. It’s common to feel overwhelmed and marginalized but remember; you still have purpose and valuable contributions to make. While your life may have taken a different course, it’s essential to set a time limit on your grief and seek out the “glimmers” in your life. You are not defined by your illness; rather, you possess unique strengths and experiences to share with those around you.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I collaborate with and feature individuals living with autoimmune diseases, rare disorders, mental health conditions, and anxiety. Connect with me on Instagram at My_Spoonie_Sisters or reach out via email at [email protected].
