We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jenny Drennan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jenny below.
Jenny, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
As an immigrant from a Spanish-speaking household, I experienced first-hand the struggle of navigating the school system. Fortunately, I had angels and amazing mentors in my life who guided me and my family with resources, support, and gave me hope. My experiences inspired me to become a classroom teacher and be the same mentor and advocate for my students!
As a teacher, I noticed that my students were not getting the support they needed despite the resources available. I saw that the traditional classroom setting was not enough to meet their diverse needs. That’s why I decided to obtain a certificate in educational therapy, so I could provide a tailored approach for each student. I opened WeThrive Learning with the goal of igniting a passion for knowledge, promoting self-awareness, and sparking curiosity in each child. I understand that every learner has unique strengths and needs, and I strive to create a safe and inclusive environment where they can thrive.
WeThrive Learning has transformed into a tight-knit community of specialized educators and coaches who are committed to ensuring the success of their students. They possess exceptional knowledge in child and adolescent development, and are equipped to address challenges such as ADHD, Dyscalculia, and various processing difficulties. Moreover, they also understand the emotional and stress-related impacts that may hinder learning. My expertise as an ADHD and Executive Function Student Coach shows in my commitment to empowering neurodivergent students. I am passionate about instilling a growth mindset into all students, enhancing their confidence, reframing their narrative, and making learning fun and accessible.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As an educational therapist and ADHD student coach, my aim is to help students become self-sufficient learners. I do this by guiding them and their parents on how to transfer ownership of their responsibilities both in and out of school. I have a deep understanding of the complexities of ADHD and learning differences. With this knowledge, I help parents reframe their perspective on their child’s behavior so that they can connect with them better and collaborate with their children to create lasting change.
I integrate educational therapy, coaching, and motivational interviewing techniques to help students develop strategies that work best for them. My goal is to help parents raise confident, self-reliant, and self-aware learners who can advocate for themselves and navigate the ups and downs in life with confidence.
I have been honored to earn recognition as one of the top 10 most influential educators by MSN. Additionally, my contributions and presentations have been featured at the Association of Educational Therapists, CHADD Groups, ImpactParents, and numerous podcasts, workshops, and parent groups. While I am incredibly proud of these accolades, I am most proud of the incredible success I have seen in the students and families that I have worked with.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Some of the most important things are passion, determination, and finding a good community. The advice I would give to folks just entering in their journey would be to surround yourself with a good community. Our coaches, clinic manager, content manager, families, and my friends in this field have made this journey immensely joyful. Connecting, asking for advice or input, sharing resources, and having trusting conversations with everyone benefits our students and families. It also helps our team feel more connected, and my friends feel comfortable asking for help to better serve the families they work with.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Our educational therapy services have been life changing for many families, but we are always looking for more families to support. We would love to partner with schools, school districts, psychologists, and parents-especially if they are working with neurodivergent students.
