Meet Jenny Hu

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jenny Hu. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jenny below.

Jenny, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

My purpose as a food content creator began during the COVID-19 pandemic when many restaurants were forced to shut down—not because their food wasn’t good, but because they were unknown to the community.

As someone from a first-generation family and a minority, I’ve witnessed how language barriers and a lack of social media knowledge can prevent talented restaurant owners from showcasing their incredible food. This inspired me to use my content creation skills to help these owners tell their stories through vibrant photos, engaging videos, and thoughtful posts that capture the essence of their food and culture.

Beyond creating digital content, I have also hosted multiple community events offline, bringing customers and restaurant owners together in meaningful ways. These gatherings foster stronger connections, allowing people to experience the passion behind the food firsthand. By amplifying their online presence and facilitating in-person relationships, I bridge the gap between business owners and customers, helping local restaurants thrive.

It’s incredibly fulfilling to use my creativity to support the dreams of hardworking individuals while enriching the community with diverse culinary experiences.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

As a food content creator, my journey has been shaped by my educational background and passion for marketing. I graduated from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School in May 2024, where I built a strong foundation in marketing and gained valuable business etiquette and B2B communication skills. These experiences have allowed me to blend creative content creation with strategic business insights, helping local businesses connect with their communities. Through the creation of Atlanta_Foodyyyyy, I applied my marketing knowledge to real-world situations, amplifying business owners’ brands through content creation and social media management. These hands-on experiences have been crucial in honing my skills as a marketing professional.

Currently, I’m pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Science at the University of Pennsylvania while continuing my work as a content creator. I also balance the rewarding challenge of family life as a new mom alongside my academic and professional pursuits. I’m grateful for the opportunities to make a tangible impact by supporting local businesses and fostering deeper connections within my community.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

#1: Resilience
When I first started my account, growth was slow, with no viral views or immediate success. Despite this, I stayed committed and continued posting consistently. Over time, my perseverance led to significant growth, with 25k+ followers on Instagram and thousands more across other platforms. If I had given up early on, I wouldn’t have reached this point. My advice to those just starting is to remain persistent and focus on long-term goals. Growth often requires patience, and resilience allows you to keep moving forward, even when results aren’t immediate.

#2: Empathy
Empathy has been crucial in shaping my approach to content creation. It all started with caring for my local community and understanding the challenges both business owners and customers face. By putting myself in the shoes of those who are disadvantaged—whether due to language barriers or a lack of social media knowledge—I was able to create meaningful connections. My advice is to always listen, understand, and approach problems from multiple perspectives. Empathy can help you create genuine relationships and make a greater impact.

#3: Professional Knowledge
The knowledge I gained during my undergraduate studies, especially in marketing, has been instrumental in my journey. It gave me a strong foundation in business communication, strategic thinking, and content creation, all of which I applied to my work with local businesses. For those starting out, investing in building your skills and knowledge—whether through formal education or self-learning—will provide the tools needed to make informed decisions and effectively support your goals.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?

As I continue to balance multiple roles—pursuing a master’s degree in Computer Science, growing my content creation career, and navigating family life—time management has become my most significant challenge. Juggling academic deadlines, client projects, and the responsibilities of being a new mom can be overwhelming at times. To overcome this, I’ve learned to prioritize tasks, set clear boundaries, and embrace efficiency tools that help me stay organized. Additionally, I focus on taking one step at a time, reminding myself that progress doesn’t have to be immediate, as long as I remain consistent and adapt along the way.
