Meet Jenny Mahoney

We recently connected with Jenny Mahoney and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jenny, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

Discovering the world of Color Analysis and applying it to myself in all beauty, fashion, and lifestyle choices made going forward played a huge role in how I developed my confidence. For the longest time, I had been playing the ultimate guessing game with my beauty choices. The greatest struggle was with dyeing my hair, as I had always resorted to whatever may have been the trending hairstyle of the time or highlights that might’ve looked great on a celebrity I liked… 2010 chunky highlights anyone?

It was always frustrating spending time and money on a fresh hairdo just to find that these trends/shades never looked quite right on me, and I could never figure out why! It wasn’t until I made my first Color Analysis appointment with an expert that I learned that color analysis is far from a guessing game. It’s built upon a scientific system which determines the set of color qualities, and through this experience I had learned–it’s not the golden honey blonde I thought I wanted that really brings out the best and brightest of my blue eyes, it’s actually ash.

Learning about my personal color season (I’m a bright winter) not only shaped all of my beauty choices (we’re talking hair, wardrobe, makeup) from that point on, but also made a huge impact on building my self-esteem. Knowing that it’s not that I had to change anything about myself to look and feel better, but that I needed to know what works best to enhance my natural features gave me a boost of self-esteem and I couldn’t wait to share with anyone else who could relate to my struggles!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

What makes Lily’s Color Lab special is the very reason I started this business…our mission to help clients discover their most radiant selves through color analysis! It is truly exciting to see our clients “light up” when they learn what color palettes truly work for them and why, and walk out of studio feeling a new desire and motivation to re-work their wardrobe tailored to their typed season.

We have a team of expert Color Analysts who make the Lily’s Color Lab atmosphere truly special, welcoming, and inviting in all 3 of our locations; NYC, DC, and LA. We are growing our expert team to include Color Analysts with certified experience in cosmetology, and with this we are excited to start offering makeup-consultations as a new service!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Leadership is a skill necessary to consistently hone in on, as I’m always striving to be a reliable leader to my small, but growing and mighty team. Listening to and implementing feedback from my Color Analyst, Admin, and Marketing members has been crucial to being a firm and decisive, yet approachable and relatable leader.

Having a constantly growing mindset of Marketing and Entrepreneurship has also been the key to growing Lily’s Color Lab since I’ve started the business in 2024. Always staying on top of the ever changing world of fashion and beauty trends has the biggest impact on thinking of creative marketing strategies to implement and new services to provide for our audience. My advice to any business owners also in the early stages of their journey would be to also stay on top of what is happening in their industry…What are current trends? Who is involved? How do I adapt my business to fit? Whether it be in beauty or not, remind yourself that it’s your genuine interest and passion for the subject that motivated you to begin your business to begin with, and it’s also what will keep you at the forefront of your field.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

Currently, I am working with the Lily’s Color Lab team to upstart an exciting re-branding project to best tailor and suit the needs of our audience. It has been a challenge to understand what our audience would want or need to learn about the service in order to enter the world of Color Analysis, so I have been working with the team to conduct brainstorming sessions, focus group studies, and competitor research. As part of our re-branding project we are working hard to give our logo, website, and social media a brand new look, so make sure to give us a follow and stay tuned for our fresh makeover! As it is helping me to learn more about our potential audience and clients this is a good challenge to face, and I welcome many more as Lily’s Color Lab continues to grow.
