Meet Jeny Contreras

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jeny Contreras a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Jeny , so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

By showing up and doing the work. The only way to overcome this feeling is by truly staying committed to your vision. Breaking down the very skills needed to excel at that thing and putting the knowledge to work. Facing the challenges that come and seeing the opportunity to better yourself. Imposter syndrome for me only comes when I
don’t prepare for what I need to do, therefore , I always make time to learn and prepare. I pray , I rest and I repeat. It’s an everyday action not a final destination. Be persistent to overcoming that emotion and in due time you will.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

My name is Jeny Contreras and I am a vibrant and dynamic digital content creator specializing in hair, fashion, and beauty. As an Afrolatina, my brand focus is a celebration of my rich cultural heritage and personal style, blending traditional influences with contemporary trends to create a unique and compelling digital presence.
At the heart of my brand is a deep commitment to representation and inclusivity. My content is not just about showcasing beauty and fashion; it’s about making a statement and creating a space where Afrolatina voices and experiences are authentically represented. My mission is to empower and inspire my audience by highlighting diverse beauty standards, promoting self-expression, and fostering a sense of community among like-minded individuals.
The engagement with my audience goes beyond traditional content creation. I host lives, Q&A sessions, collaborate with other creators, and participate in community events that amplify my mission of representation and inclusivity. My followers are not just viewers but an integral part of her brand’s journey, contributing to a vibrant and supportive digital ecosystem.
In essence, I am more than a digital content creator—I am a cultural ambassador, a community builder, and a role model who uses her platform to celebrate and elevate the Afrolatina experience while fostering meaningful connections and balancing her professional and personal life with grace and authenticity.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The most impactful qualities and skills that were most impactful in this journey were : Persistence, patience and relentless determination.

For anyone who is just starting out as a content creator: here is what is most important to know early on; Focus on Consistency and Authenticity.
Consistency: Regularly posting content helps build an audience and keeps them engaged. It doesn’t mean you have to post every day, but find a rhythm that works for you and stick to it. This could be weekly, bi-weekly, or whatever fits your schedule and content type.
Authenticity: Be yourself and create content that resonates with who you are. Authenticity helps build a genuine connection with your audience, who are more likely to engage with you if they feel you’re being real. Share your unique perspective, experiences, and voice. Your POV matters and your community will find you, do not look at the numbers, Show up and Show out !
Also, don’t be afraid to experiment and learn as you go. The landscape is always evolving, so stay flexible and adapt. And remember, every big creator started where you are now, so keep pushing forward and enjoy the journey!

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

As a single mother , she made sure to always provide. Even on days or years she didn’t have it , she never let me know and always provided me with the tools and resources to succeed. Now that I am a mother , I too posses that trait and is the internal motivation to always show up for them and be my very best.
