Meet Jere Cassidy

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jere Cassidy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jere below.

Hi Jere, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

This is such an easy question because I have known this since I was a little girl. My work ethic comes from the very strong women in my life: my mother, my two grandmothers and my aunt.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’ve always loved being in the kitchen, whether cooking or baking. It’s where my creativity comes to life. Growing up, one of my jobs was helping cook for the hired hands on our farm. Watching my grandmother whip up a full dinner in no time was inspiring. I joined 4-H, started baking, and haven’t stopped since.

Later in life, I went to culinary school. While I realized that owning my own bakery wasn’t in the cards, I started my food blog, One Hot Oven. I’ve been blogging for 14 years now—it’s my business and a way to keep my passion for cooking and baking alive.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I believe it’s important for everyone to discover and nurture their passion in life. For me, that means constantly working on new recipes or reinventing old ones with fresh flavors. Even after all this time, I still experience cooking and baking failures, but it’s rewarding when I create something unique to share on my blog. I’m always experimenting and learning about new ingredients and cooking techniques that are always evolving.

My advice is to find something that truly ignites your passion. If you try something that doesn’t feel right, moving on is okay. But whatever you pursue, you have to dedicate time to it. That dedication will fuel your creativity, and the effort will pay off.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

My biggest challenge is the isolation of working from home. Before I became a blogger, I always had an office to go to and coworkers around me. Now, it’s just me. Fortunately, I’ve built a strong network of bloggers from around the world who have become great friends and a constant source of inspiration. They’re the ones who keep me motivated, sharing their knowledge and struggles along the way.
