Meet Jerel Smith

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jerel Smith . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Jerel , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I’d say it comes from a combination of sources. From an early age I witnessed my grandfather withstand several challenges daily…,my mother as well, and in the midst of whatever those circumstances were, there always seemed to be a way out, light at the end of the tunnel, and neither of them ever gave in. Sometimes, it wasn’t without stress though, but observing what did, and did not work for them has truly navigated my own resilience, and for that, I’m truly grateful. Their tenacity, the remembrance of my grandmother’s prayers, coupled with my own life’s experiences, I could only say that I’ve only been able to strengthen what was already within me.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m creative through several outlets, from Creative Direction, Photography, and Videography. I’d consider myself a mental alchemist, and it shows up by way of my art. For me, mental alchemy is the process of taking any given circumstance and making it gold, putting power behind the outcome that’s desired based on your mind’s positioning. Whatever life throws at you, how do you make the most of it, and then some? Knew Aeon is my company that allows me to fuse this with my creativity for the betterment of all, to actively contribute to the evolution of thought streams that foster conscious dreaming, vibrant vision, and a profound connection to wholeness. It’s committed to nurturing mental health and wellness alignment, recognizing the intrinsic value of every individual’s mental and emotional well-being. The dedication extends to championing the diverse experiences within the BIPOC community, celebrating and amplifying their voices through ideation, art, and culture.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
When I consider the three qualities, skills, and knowledge that have been most impactful in my life, the first one would be my input. Everyday, a new story is being written. How much of my own story have I contributed to, how much of it have I allowed to be written by others? My advice here would be whether it be 10 years from now or 50, make sure that you can say that you chose your life, you did not settle for it. The second thing I’d say would be understanding that life is an ebb and flow. There are highs and lows, and sometimes in order to experience a new high, we experience what appears as a new low. Once I understood this balance, I began to appreciate every part of my journey. Lastly and more lighthearted, I’d share really just to open up a book. Some of my closest friends are Authors and those within the pages of the books. I’ve gained so much innerstanding and wisdom just by finding the time to read what interests me, and that’s very fulfilling.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
I love personal transformation, ancient wisdom, and esoteric books. One of the most pivotal books I’ve read is the Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. I’d suggest this book to anyone looking to have to find a great sense of self and purpose. Even as you read, you will find his wisdom being imparted to you, if you’re open to it. It’s taught me how to truly be present, to recognize the presence in others, and the power that is within me.
