We recently connected with Jeremiah Woodard and have shared our conversation below.
Jeremiah, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
I’ve learned to be successful by just genuinely being myself. My family has always taught me to be who I am or else no one will ever take you seriously and more importantly, you won’t take yourself seriously.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Jeremiah Woodard. I am a freelance photographer based in Fort Worth, Texas. I shoot just about anything that catches my eye. From architecture to cars to portraits. I’ve always loved and admired the art of photography. I would like to give a shoutout to my brother, Tommy, for making photography peak my interest and a huge Shoutout to my family and friends for supporting me throughout the years.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
One, consistency. As much as I struggle with it, it is very important to be consistent. Especially in the creative space. Every day, there are millions of new artists trying their hardest to get their name out there. The important constantly trying to get the end goal until you finally have that big break. Secondly, creativity. What makes you different from everyone else? Nowadays it is extremely rare for someone to come up with something no one has ever thought of. Lastly, inspiration. This ties into my creative quality. People seem to have inspiration and plaigirism confused with one another when there is a obvious difference. Inspiration, you can take certain things from your favorite artists, flip them and put them into your own perspective. Plagiarism, you’re just blatantly copying and pasting.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Simple, take a break. Spend some time with your family, hang with your friends, take a nice little stroll or just sit outside. I feel like that’s when you truly appreciate your craft.
