Meet Jeremy Evans

We recently connected with Jeremy Evans and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeremy, thanks for sitting with us today to chat about topics that are relevant to so many. One of those topics is communication skills, because we live in an age where our ability to communicate effectively can be like a superpower. Can you share how you developed your ability to communicate well?
We learn from experiences and what others around us teach us about communicating. We learn from effective and ineffective communication. The main point is that we learn, adapt, overcome, and lead by example.

My experiences as a child taught me a great deal about communicating in big groups as I was the youngest of nine children. I became enthralled by the community around me outside the home as well, which introduced me to a broad range of culture and communication styles. Comedic timing is important for landing great jokes and we can learn from effective communicators on timing, listening, reflecting, and responding. God gave us two ears and one mouth, act according.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As the Chief Entrepreneur Officer, Founder & Managing Attorney at California Sports Lawyer®, my law practice is focused on entertainment, media, and sports clients in contractual, intellectual property, and dealmaking matters based in Southern California. You have to continue learning to be successful and in the legal field there is always something to be learned. Starting your own business is also a great way to learn fast, but being an entrepreneur is not for everyone.

The freedom to choose your practice area, clients, and schedule is a wonderful tool. The question is how to effectively use those tools. At the end of the day, I find myself happy and content. That is worth its weight in gold.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Geography, branding, and community. I have preached those three principles for years. Geography: you have to be where the action is both digitally and physically. Branding: you have to create and maintain a good, strong brand. Community: you have to join community organizations and take on leadership responsibilities that will have a direct impact on your career and soul.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
“Tools of Titans” by Tim Ferriss and “Never Eat Alone” by Keith Ferrazzi both teach the principle of developing content and relationships. Content should be made and distributed not with the initial purpose of making money, but to fulfill a creative need and get started. Eventually the money will arrive. Relationships should also be intentional in connecting with people for purpose, not money. Surrounding yourself with great people with purpose that you can learn from.
