Jerm V., so great to have you on the platform and excited to have you share your wisdom with our community today. Communication skills often play a powerful role in our ability to be effective and so we’d love to hear about how you developed your communication skills.
I draw a distinct way to articulate myself creatively & efficiently: Coordinating within my own creative performance; allowing help from new & potential collaborators/patrons to unravel the artistry I set forth & unfold! This ability to sense a worthwhile connection with my audience is something I refurbish more so (once I’ve understood how I’d like to interact with my artwork in a thought provoking way). I gauge what might be considered “abrasive” or “nonchalant” in meaningful interactions & adopt attentive detailing atop of a jovial calm that’s made to not spook new folks immediately. I totally strive to become a renowned creative artist willing to strike a balance: I incentivize the idea (for myself initially) to conjure & protect an influence or essence of originality – making mind of how authentic my creative performance could potentially become. I don’t ever want to resemble another performing act close to my competitors or within various talents I walk by. I’m on a conquest to maintain who & what my brand of streetwoven creative collectibles is all about: The art style I let form or shape; coupled with the likeminded crowds of people who enjoy a satisfactory visual journey made to captivate!
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I currently run/operate an evolving streetwear merchandise brand & creative performance by the name of “Dweeb Kil.” (@dweebkil): Throughout the East Coast (in spots across North Carolina, Georgia, & Florida). This kind of creative endeavor is made to house my artwork/illustrations, streetwear I can screenprint & fashion into existence, & the catalog of revolving creative collectibles I’ve made to purchase at various vending markets/events. I’ve even adopted an environmentally conscious aspect to my newly acquainted line of inventory – catering to 2023’s pronounced change in the noticeable rise of warming climates! These can be seen with new safe-to-use reusable water bottles I’ve enlisted (for beachgoers, exercise fanatics, etc.) + the water bowls for dogs I tend to showcase during my outdoor vending markets I attend! As a freelancing graphic design artist, I love to conduct creative design work within digital/artwork assembly sessions: Tailored to advertise newly found (or existing) brands, music/bands, & beginning small businesses (through my own illustrative packaging design service “Valentine Heart Studio Art”). 🍊🌎🌴🌿🌊
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey?
I’d love to address one of each (one quality, one skill, and one area of knowledge)! One quality that became most impactful on this creative journey could definitely surround my ambitious drive. As overly attentive as I can be, I tend to make the effort to not gain an overzealous attitude when constructing my works of art or just taking a risk that could foster a newly crafted outcome. This acknowledgment restrains my thought process, yet indulges my willingness to maintain, stride, & carry potent momentum for myself (versus falling to a certain hype + losing a chance to skyrocket my forming & honed resolve). One skill that became most impactful would be my own organization/scheduling, too! I draw better attention to events or opportunities that align well within my own timing; on top of curating a timeline that could serve me better as I amount this inclined drive to succeed/position my motives. Lastly, one area of knowledge I know has impacted my journey blends philosophical expression with a psychological approach to being. This stems from my need to gather insights from differing anthologies or poetry-bound writers; coupled with the teachings & understanding present in how people gauge human behavior within themselves and between one another devoutly. It helps to map my mind’s directional path while following my heart’s bounty of creative intentions!
What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I’d totally advise newly found creative minds to 1) consistently understand their unique creative process while 2) learning to guide themselves amidst an outside influence they’ve recognized to be working guidance. Whether you jot down a simple list of objectives you’re hoping to accomplish by the end of a given day, or are seeking refinement within your select projects, the easiest way to develop or improve is to habitually shape your methods of interaction (within yourself, your timing, & your environments). This can include the resources you’re attaining reasonably, the open availability you’ve amounted to unravel your creative nature, & even the choices you take time to make as your lifepath builds upon the initial foundation you’re refurbishing. Knowing exactly when you could or can attend to various needs usually results in a sense of priority or urgency: For aspiring artists, this agency acts to help categorize your intentions, interests, and incentives – all while inhabiting spaces that bring a passionate wind of vitality to your revolving decisions or initiatives worth trekking through!
Are you looking for folks to partner or collaborate with? If so, describe the sorts of folks you are looking to collaborate with and how they can connect with you if they are reading this and want to collaborate.
I roam this Earth as of now to bridge a special alignment or connection within my devout tact of artistry: This usually pairs me with various vendors, artisans, craft makers, creative minds, fashion designers, clothing brands, and a whole catalog of notable projects to be weary of. I try to envision that (at least) if I don’t meet with this class of people, I can breach awareness for who I am & what I do without needing to have a display table setup outright. I always set out to gain interactivity that makes sense; with a band of folks that have pure willingness attached! A true interaction that stems from genuine interest in a branded concert t-shirt I’ve created, or a new collaborative sticker that I’ve illustrated onto with a friend, serves the public at large in my eye. It shows that (past partnerships & collaborators) there’s an extension of myself able to breathe new life into an atmosphere I represent or could inhabit. The creative performance I adapt is both physical and digital – Whether chatting to make a new sale face-to-face, or furthering brand loyalty for online savvy clientele, I am looking to connect with a school of thought that is original, viable, and evolves alongside my stylings & gravitational pull of excellence!
