We were lucky to catch up with Jerome T Ewing recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jerome T , so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
In writing , or in life in general success comes with being confident and what you’re talking about and Truth is very important for that concept because when you’re telling the truth about something nothing else matters because you can tell the story or write it over and over if you’re talking to a young audience or old audience it doesn’t matter because when you’re talking about a subject for instance me celebrities I’ve been around them for 40 years now and anything I do is first hand not what somebody told me so it makes my confidence really high when I’m talking about them life is the same way if I walk into a room whether I know that people are not if the subject I’m coming to talk about is the truth that I don’t really study or anything for it I come in ready to talk and it doesn’t matter if someone’s like me in the room or not my confidence level is high because I’m coming there to talk about a truthful subject that I do participated in and most occasions

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
In 2018 I had a mild stroke and I paused everything temporarily until I got my strength back by 2022 I had just finished writing my second book and everything was on locked down doing that time , that gave me time to reflect a lot on life not just a celebrity pictures but where I’m going as opposed to where I’m coming from and in that moment I discovered, having thousands of celebrity pictures under my belt it really didn’t mean anything when you consider how fragile life is and so with a renewed Focus my second book came out so much better because now I got a fresh look a these pictures and stories I had thousands of stories instead of just thousands of pictures when you do as much as I did in the time frame that I did it , life seems to pass me by because every day i’m with another celebrity versus some people may be every now and then if they’re blessed get to meet one and so his story is probably bigger in the moment to them because they can reflect on it they can talk about how much it meant and all the good things that come with that but there was a period in my life of 15 years I was with somebody in the celebrity status, and so during this period or the first time I really got to understanding of what I did because at the time I didn’t have time to think about it was on to the next on to the next on to the next and before I know it 40 years had passed but if I had time in between each job would have been bigger and I think that’s how God works sometime because I might have froze or been nervous but with things happen so fast and not having time to think about it was good and so now when I sit back and look at some of these pictures they become more meaningful even though some of them 20 years or 30 years old or 10 years but I can sit back and tell the story now, so I took advantage of the of that time to really reflect on my life and and put some kind of time stamp on it and now I wrote the book ” Face the Music in Pictures reload ” and now I can share it with the world I don’t think I was the greatest photographer in the world but I probably was the most Blessed at one time because God kept me in the midst of whatever was going on in the world and that’s rare and that’s a blessing that I will forever be grateful for as far as me now I am a TV program director for a channel called” Vest TV Network on Roku ” and so that’s what I spend most of my time programming shows and that kind of thing right now and talking with certain studios for possibly a movie about my life and that would be big time whether it’s on our Network or Netflix or whatever that would be a major accomplishment.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
That’s a great question because in my book I talk about my journey and it’s important first to understand when you’re on a journey that was the first thing I understood to give you an example at one point I was homeless living in my car in Atlanta Georgia a humble servant of God he really blessed me you know you never know where you’re going but your heart can be like a compass and point you in the right direction ,people would tell you I was already humble but that experience living in my car even humbled me more if that is even possible with my book the celebrity pictures and stories are really the icing on the cake ,when you read my book The Blessing was just getting up and following God’s words and what I mean by that is if any of your listeners want to know how to stay focused there’s a little person that lives inside of us that tells us things what’s right and what’s wrong if you’re following that inner person your conscience it will lead you down the right path in most occasions believing in what you doing is so important I would sleep with my camera and practice all night because we didn’t have all the autofocus cameras and a thousand or two thousand shots on a memory card we had 36 shots at the most and no auto focus and man you needed to be on point at all times so that kept me focused on the photography part but the living part was me talking to God everyday and knowing where my help was coming from and to the young readers whatever their Journey whatever their passion give it to all because God will know your heart he will point you in the right direction.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
That’s a pretty easy question to answer for me in particular because I’m always looking to collaborate with somebody I’m always willing to give back to somebody gave to me somebody collaborated with me somebody called me all the time and asked me to do things that led to my success so yes that’s very important to me and should be to your readers only boxers and golfers are successful individuals most people works better as a team because we all have some kind of shortcomings and to collaborate with somebody means you can pick up on someone else’s of strengths and sharing your strengths with them and learning together , because if you try to do everything yourself it’s a little bit harder if you succeed it may be more successful but nine times out of 10 collaborating for instance I see people very successful doing podcasts which is sitting there talking but if they sit there and do the podcast body system by their self it wouldn’t be successful if they the more people you bring in to talk to make your success more effective you learn something everyday from somebody else and others will learn from you and that experience transcends generations talk to older people if you’re old talk to younger people but to me the world needs more collaboration I’ll work with anybody on any project that has a positive theme , so yes I’m always looking for someone who can make videos better than me or a graphic artist or anybody who want to collaborate with me other photographers other writers I don’t have a team anymore so I’m just a one man band and I need a lot of help , if someone emailed me I usually respond and find out what can we do to help each other I mean I have thousands of pictures that I’m curating now but as I get older you know I don’t find as much time to do the things I would love to have a intern or someone under my belt who know a little bit about putting videos together a TV programming I love to teach that to someone but I’m always I’ll have always been a person who thinks teamwork is DreamWork and saying that I work with social successful teams like LA and Babyface Jermaine Dupri and his dad which I saw a lot and I wanted my son to come into the business and work with me like that that was always a dream of mine but he chose another path, he didn’t choose my path but I think just to have a partner who you can work with will take you a long way in this world on your journey and I wish nothing but the best to each and every one of you.
