Meet Jerry Garcia

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jerry Garcia a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jerry, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

My work ethic isn’t something I developed in isolation—it’s woven into the fabric of who I am, passed down through generations of hardworking men who shaped my understanding of what it means to truly commit to something.

I’m a first-generation American, born to parents who immigrated from Nicaragua and Honduras in the early 1980s with dreams of the American promise and the unwavering determination of a family rooted in multigenerational cattle farming. My grandfather’s farm was my first classroom. During those sweltering Bluefield summers, I learned alongside my cousins that meaningful work begins before sunrise and doesn’t end when you’re tired—it ends when the job is done.

My father, a butcher who eventually built his own hotel and restaurant business, taught me that craftsmanship isn’t just about the end result—it’s about the pride you take in every step. “Pay attention to the details,” he’d tell me, “because the details are what separate good work from great work.” Meanwhile, my older cousin, the family’s first scholar, showed me that knowledge without application is just potential energy, but when you harness and channel it purposefully, it becomes a force that can reshape your entire trajectory.

Growing up in Miami, I became fascinated with turning ideas into reality. While other kids were content with allowances, I was creating my own cash flow—selling mixtapes and candy at school, constantly looking for gaps a determined kid could fill. These weren’t just side hustles; they were my laboratory for understanding how ambition translates into action.

What drives me isn’t just personal success—it’s knowing that every goal I achieve creates a wider path for those coming behind me. My work ethic is about honoring the generations who worked so I could dream, and inspiring the generations who will dream bigger because of the foundation I’m building today.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

As an entrepreneur and accounting professional based in Miami, I launched Numera Tax & Bookkeeping after recognizing a fundamental gap between what businesses need and what they’re receiving from traditional accounting services.

What inspires me most isn’t just the technical precision of accounting—it’s the educational component. Too many individuals and businesses are leaving money on the table simply because they don’t understand available tax strategies and financial efficiencies. We’re not just processing numbers; we’re empowering people with knowledge that can transform their financial futures.

Our approach integrates innovative, time-saving technologies with white glove service. We’re serving clients in many areas, working with everyone from first-time tax filers to nonprofits maximizing their impact. Each client brings different challenges, demanding constant learning and adaptation—something that appeals to the problem-solver in me.

What’s particularly exciting right now is our rapid expansion across the nation. We’re actively serving clients in eleven states: Florida, Georgia, Texas, New Jersey, Michigan, Colorado, Delaware, New York, Wyoming, North Carolina and South Carolina. This growth isn’t just about scale—it’s about building a network of trusted advisors who can facilitate the unique needs of each market while maintaining our core commitment to financial education and efficiency.

Beyond Numera, my entrepreneurial curiosity has led me to explore ventures in IT services, E-commerce, and Apparel—experiences that inform how we better serve our accounting clients.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back on my journey, three qualities stand out as absolutely critical to everything I’ve accomplished: Research & Planning, Execution and Consistency.

Research and Planning comes before execution because you can’t hit a target you can’t see. Poor planning produces poor performance. Before I execute any idea, I immerse myself in understanding the landscape: competitors, market gaps, required resources, potential obstacles. This isn’t about achieving perfection before you start; it’s about being strategic enough to maximize your chances of success while minimizing unnecessary risks.

Execution is where dreams either become reality or remain forever stuck in the realm of “what if.” Ideas without execution are just expensive daydreams. What separates successful entrepreneurs from chronic dreamers is the ability to transform concepts into concrete action. When I launched Numera, it wasn’t because I had a perfect plan or unlimited resources—it was because I was willing to move from thinking about it to actually doing it.

Consistency is what transforms good ideas and solid plans into sustainable success. Everything worthwhile is built through repetition. Consistency isn’t glamorous—it’s showing up every day, refining your processes, serving your clients with the same level of excellence whether it’s your first customer or your thousandth. It’s what allowed me to expand Numera across eleven states.

For anyone early in their journey, my advice is straightforward: spend excessive time developing your skills and learning from elite performers in your industry. Study voraciously—both current industry publications and historical accounts of how others have navigated similar challenges.
Most importantly, understand that knowledge without application is worthless. Start where you are, with what you have, and let consistency compound your efforts over time. Success isn’t about having all the answers at the beginning; it’s about being relentless in finding solutions as you go.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Absolutely. As we continue scaling Numera Tax & Bookkeeping, I’m actively seeking strategic partnerships that align with our mission of comprehensive financial empowerment. Our rapid expansion across eleven states has shown me that the right partnerships can exponentially amplify our impact while maintaining the quality and personalized service our clients expect.

I’m interested in connecting with entrepreneurs building complementary services—whether through strategic alliances, joint ventures, or creating a network of trusted professionals for client referrals. I believe in collaborative growth over isolated competition.

Technology partners are another key focus area. We’ve built our competitive advantage around integrating innovative solutions with white-glove service, and I’m always looking for partnerships with fintech companies, software developers, and IT service providers who can help us stay at the cutting edge.

Finally, I’m particularly interested in connecting with fellow accounting professionals and tax specialists who share our commitment to client education and excellence. Whether you have specialized expertise in forensic accounting or domestic and international tax law, there’s likely a mutually beneficial partnership opportunity. We believe in leveraging each other’s strengths rather than competing in a race to the bottom.
