We recently connected with Jes Marie and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jes, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
In the entertainment business, you have to deal with a lot of setbacks and rejection. I used to drive myself crazy over these things and get really upset by any criticism or negative situation. I realized that I had to be truly happy with myself and my work and what I was doing, before I could expect anyone else to support me. I’ve done a lot of inner work – meditation, guided hypnosis, and it’s made me a much more confident person who knows what I want and deserve – and goes after it! Now I don’t let ‘no’s’ take me down. I just realize that those situations are not the right opportunity for me at this time and I move on to the next. For every no, I have found there IS a yes out there, it may just not be exactly what you had first imagined, or comes to you in a different way. I find it always ends up being more in alignment with your purpose anyway.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am an actress, VO artist and singer/songwriter. Excited to share that my new single “Girls’ Night Out,” came out on all music platforms on March 22, 2024. Though the song is about a fun time with your girlfriends, I wrote the lyrics about the country music scene of the past few years. Country radio has been pushing almost only men for several years now. It’s time for the ladies to shine and take over!!
There is a also a fun music video for the song that we shot with some great friends of mine. It’s on YouTube, Facebook, etc now. My husband Joe Sobalo Jr directed the music video and it was amazing working with him and a wonderful group of our friends. It was an incredible experience making the video with people that I love and care about. Every single person on that set was so supportive and awesome. They are amazing and I am so grateful!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
That’s a great question. I would say gaining self-confidence was definitely one of the most impactful parts of my journey. It’s so easy to get down on yourself if you feel like things aren’t going as planned, or dealing with rejection, and feel like you’re not good enough. But that’s just not true. You ARE deserving. You just have to feel that way and believe it. And then great things come because you are truly happy.
To go along with that, I feel like support from family and friends is so important. I used to never ask anyone for help or advice because I didn’t want to bother people. But it’s important to have people in your corner that you can talk to and be real with – and for them to have that same relationship with you. Having a good circle of people that you trust implicitly is so important to life in general.
A third thing that’s been extremely impactful for me is meditating. Having inner peace and gaining clarity and calmness. It’s very easy to get stressed out, worry and wonder what will happen next (at least for my personality type, I used to be quite high strung, LOL!) I definitely feel like meditating every single day has helped me tremendously to chill out, breathe, and not sweat the small stuff.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
I have to say, and I’m sure this has been said many times before, but “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne has been so impactful in my life. I have the audiobook and listen to it every time I need a pick me up. It’s impossible to listen to that thing and feel bad! The two just can’t co-exist with each other in my mind. Every time I turn it on it says to me just the right thing I needed to hear in that particular moment. I love it.
