We recently connected with Jéssica and have shared our conversation below.
Jéssica, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I find my purpose by looking inward and really asking myself what inspires me and makes me feel fulfilled. When I think about the things I truly appreciate, I ask, “What can I do to make an impact on this?”
That’s how I found my path through my Brazilian jewelry brand, Oceano. Jewelry is something you can always change. it lets you express how you feel and shift your energy. And Brazil, one of my cultures, is so rich and full of life. It’s a part of me that I deeply love, and Oceano became my way of sharing that love with others.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Thank you so much for the opportunity to share my story. My name is Rio, and I’m the founder of Oceano, a jewelry brand inspired by the richness of Brazilian culture and the beauty of self-expression through adornment. Each piece is handcrafted with intention—many are sourced directly from Rio de Janeiro or made with love here in Los Angeles, where I’m based.
Oceano was born from a personal desire to connect more deeply with my roots and to create something that felt both timeless and energizing. What makes Oceano special is the feeling behind it—every piece is meant to make the wearer feel seen, empowered, and elevated. I work mainly with stainless steel and other durable materials, combining that strength with softness in the form of colorful beads, natural textures, or Brazilian motifs.
What excites me most is watching people light up when they wear something that resonates with their energy. Jewelry can be a quiet confidence or a loud statement either way, it’s personal.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
One of the most important qualities in my journey has been self-awareness. taking time to understand what truly inspires and drives me. That’s where my purpose started to take shape.
Another key skill is consistency. Whether it’s creating, posting, or growing a business, showing up regularly—even when things feel slow, it makes a big difference.
Lastly, cultural connection has been everything. Tapping into my Brazilian roots gave my brand real meaning and soul. I encourage others to explore their own backgrounds and let that guide their creative direction.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, I take a step back and breathe. I’ve learned that slowing down helps me hear myself again. I’ll go outside, stop thinking for a bit, or sit with my partner and just let it out. That pause helps me reset.
My advice is: don’t ignore it. Overwhelm is usually a sign that something needs attention—whether it’s rest, boundaries, or clarity. Give yourself space to regroup, then come back to your work with fresh energy.
