Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jessica Abreu. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Jessica with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I would have to say it has been instilled in me from my parents, who have always taught to me to work for what I wanted in life. Nothing was ever handed to me or my siblings, although sometimes it was rough, especially seeing my friends get things they wanted so easily. As an adult, I am so grateful to be raised the way I was. I understand the meaning of hard work and the value of all that I do to create a better life for my family.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I have always had this innate passion to help others. I knew in some shape or form I would be apart of the medical field. For the last 15 years, I have grown from a medical assistant, to managing medical practices to opening my own med spa. I feel so blessed to spend my career helping others achieve their goals and being a part of their wellness journey. Since opening my spa in 2020, I have since expanded, taking more space for our nutritional services. This year, we plan on taking over more space to create our serene relaxing spa, where we will also be offering mentor services for individuals looking to grow their own businesses. We currently offer nutritional services, spa facials, injectables, non-invasive body contouring treatments, lasers, and more.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Passion. Loving what you do is absolute key! When you have passion, your clients have passion and they develop a trust in you.
2. Continuing education. I have constantly continued to learn and grow in my industry. Technology is constantly developing and changing and making sure I am aware of what is happening and what treatments I want to offer in my spa is essential for our business.
3. Appreciating clients goes a long way! I always work with my clients understanding their busy lives, etc. I try to make their experience at my spa feel easy and calm. I treat my clients like they are family and always show how much I appreciate them and respect them. We create relationships that are meaningful and they come to our spa as their happy place.
My advice to others in regard to their journey is to stay true to their passion, remember their “why”, why they started, and use that as their focus to continue and persevere. It’s not always going to be easy, but it for sure will be worth it. Entrepreneurship is definitely not for the faint of hearts, it takes a special person, but when you know that this is the life you want for yourself, the hard work, the sleepless nights, the stress, it will all pay off in the end.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
I would have to say one of my weaknesses yet also strengths, is that I am in an empath. I take on so much of what others are feeling and I constantly put others needs before my own. However, when it comes to running a business, you have to grow a backbone in order to maintain that business. You can be nice, but you have to learn to be smart. Over the years, my kindness has got me taken advantage of, manipulated, and allowed my business to take financial hits. With that being said, I have went through personal growth. I have been able to separate my business from my friendships and have lost individuals who were impacting my life negatively, which has allowed me to grow into this new version of myself. One that has become so strong and resilient.
Since these changes, my business has only grown and holds true to its core values. It has been one of the hardest things I’ve had to do, but looking back I wouldn’t change anything. I can look at myself now and be so incredibly proud of my own journey and all that I have built.
