Meet Jessica Baker

We were lucky to catch up with Jessica Baker recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
In 2020, like many others, I felt the urge for a fresh and thrilling challenge in my life. Until then, my focus had been primarily on capturing still nature through my lens. However, an opportunity arose for me to enhance my abilities by participating in an individual branding session. That singular experience acted as a catalyst, sparking a deep passion within me for capturing the genuine essence of life, emotions, and the invaluable memories of those around me. Over the course of the past 3 years, I have had the amazing honor of meeting so many beautiful families. I now know that this is my ultimate purpose as a photographer.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Each family has its own story, and my role as a photographer allows me to immortalize their moments, enabling them to cherish and relive those memories for years to come. My dedication to capturing the beauty and authenticity of these families is not just about taking photographs but about creating meaningful connections, celebrating relationships, and encapsulating the essence of life in my images.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
For the last 13 years, I’ve worked in retail, refining skills that deeply influence my ability to connect with every client I encounter. Whether our relationship spans five years or just five minutes, I strive to maintain a personable demeanor, displaying genuine care and attentiveness. These connections foster loyalty, bringing clients back repeatedly. Transitioning into photography, regardless of the specific field, demands a similar blend of patience and perseverance. This profession evolves alongside the ever-changing world, demanding adaptability. What once proved effective in advertising may no longer hold true today. Continuously improving oneself, whether through refining photography techniques or enhancing business acumen, remains crucial for sustained growth and success.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
A perfect candidate for a photography session with me appreciates the narrative power of photos, treasures family connections, and seeks to craft enduring memories for future generations. I thrive on capturing life’s beautiful tale – from weddings to the arrival of a first child, through graduations, and all the significant milestones in between. It doesn’t matter if you’re new to professional sessions or seeking to boost self-confidence; let’s have a conversation and explore the incredible memories I can help immortalize for you!
