Meet Jessica Black

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jessica Black. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Jessica with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

I got my work ethic very early on in my childhood, practicing gymnastics at the early age of 3, and beginning dance at age 7. Taking dance classes at a young age really helped me to develop a strong work ethic, discipline, love of music and expression of movement, friendship, creativity, and a family oriented community.

Having a very supportive family also helped to keep me involved and interested in these art forms.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Originally from Fargo, ND, I moved with my parents and twin sister to NYC to enhance my dance training as well as having a new city lifestyle.

I graduated from Fiorello H. Laguardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. This is a performing arts high school, based of the movie FAME. I studied at renowned dance schools in Manhattan and freelanced as a professional dancer with several dance companies. I went on to perform with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and Celebrity Cruise Lines.

At age 30, I decided to begin learning aerial acrobatics. It has become a full on career change for me and a new way of life 🙂

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Discipline

Supportive family

Inspiring teachers

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

Moving my twin sister and I from Fargo, ND to the big apple to make sure we were having the best teachers, coaches, and training. My parents made a big sacrifice to give my sister and I the best life and training that would further support our careers later in life.
