Jessica, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

Where do I get my resilience from, To be honest, I feel like I get my resilience from God. I know what it feels like to be on top of the world and I know what it feels like to have the world on top of me. I know what it feels like to be the lender and I also know what it feels like to be the borrower. I know how it feels to be Loved and what it feels like to be betrayed and through it all I made it through. God is the reason why , he placed his angels around me through it all and sent them to me to release messages to me when I needed to hear them most. It would always be perfect timing ⏱️ at that. Then it would be exactly what I needed to keep on running the race without throwing in the towel. I just never wanted to give up. I would look at where I was and where I wanted to be and know that it would be greater later . Through it all when I look back at the past I’m glad I went through some of the seasons that broke me the worst because it built up my character and made me the woman I am today. Today I am a successful Licensed Cosmetologist in the State of Nevada and Texas, a Mother of 3 , I have a Beauty line of products that I’m looking to sell in Vast stores that can be purchased in my Salon Suite. I’m building my brand up in North Texas from the ground up with the help of all the angels that God has sent my way, and I’m truly thankful for the people that I have met during my spiritual journey in Texas because you guys have help me in so many ways and I’m greatful for the hunger that God has placed in my spirit that gives me that perseverance to want to push through to stay resilient and not give up. That’s another reason that I am resilient because I came out here with nothing I came to Texas in my car, I came to Texas with my daughter and a few suitcases and made something happen . Me moving from one state to another state with the faith that I had while being led by. God meant that I was jumping in the middle of the ocean and I have no choice but to swim. Sinking was not an option , so that is where my resilience come from knowing that the choices that I make in life can either make me or break me and I don’t ever want to feel like I’m broken . But if I did feel like the world was on top of me, I know how to get down on my knees and ask God for the strength to push through it, and he will guide me and help me along the way.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

My name is Jessica Cunningham aka Deshay Styles . I am a licensed cosmetologist in the state of Texas and Nevada. Well rounded stylist that provides a variety of services. I started doing hair when I was eight years old and was known as the hairstylist growing up in Reno Nevada.
When I was 12 years old, I would do my own braids in my hair and people would even stopped me and asked who braided my hair, when I would say I did it , They would not believe me lol but I would give them my phone number and tell them whenever they’re ready to book an appointment that I got them lol and they did and once they seen that I really was serious about hair they knew that I wasn’t playing around. I’ve always had a passion to do hair so after high school I wanted to further my education and go to cosmetology school.

I decided to check out Milan Institute of cosmetology. When I went to the school to check it out, I was just going there to scope it out and look at the school to see if that’s the place for me. I remember talking to my mother on the phone telling her I’m just gonna check it out. I don’t plan on signing up. I want to see how much it cost and how I feel about it. A hour later I called her back and let her know I signed up for cosmetology school lol though that wasn’t my plan, God had another plan for me. The program was a 18 month program and I went through my ups and downs because life was life in. I went through my whole pregnancy with my daughter while studying to be a stylist, I worked full-time and went to school three days did 10 hour days which added up to 30 hours a week. Throughout that season of my life , I literally had no days off and went to school and work literally seven days a week so I couldn’t miss any days. But with perseverance I pushed through knowing that at the end of the tunnel, I was gonna see the Light and I will be able to focus on offering services to my clients while providing the life that I always wanted to live. 10 years later, I am in Texas offering services to the public working on my hair product line getting that ready to be launched and building my diligent, hands brand from the ground up. Moral of the story don’t give up. You never know where God will take you. You never know who you might motivate your story may help others in their walk in life.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

A quality trait I have is Perseverance ,I’m skilled with my diligent hands , & my knowledge comes from God he is the true way to the light . He will lead you to your destiny and will give you insight and wisdom on what to do in situations that you need help and or insight with. My word of advice is take time for your self daily to dig within and understand you, get closer to God and listen to that voice that gives you wisdom and insight on your next move. Follow your instincts and trust your Gut.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

Whenever I am feeling overwhelmed, I reset. I will literally go on a social media hiatus. Put my phone down get away from the TV. Go outside and enjoy nature. I will meditate pray and listen to good music that makes me feel good in order for me to be the best me for those who love me those who support me and for those who are even clients of mine. I can’t be the best me pouring out of a empty cup so what I like to do is put myself in positions doing the things that I love so I can have a full cup to pour from.
