We were lucky to catch up with Jessica Eason recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jessica, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
My purpose started as a small seed and as life lessons and blessings began to grow, I started to recognize my purpose six years ago. It was in me the whole time and it just had to be cultivated. As there has to be a foundation, the foundation started from my upbringing. As a daughter of a pastor and a mom as a teacher, it was only right that the collision created a solid foundation of faith and education to be create a family dynamic for success. As well as support from others, they pushed me to live out my dream of being an esthetician. My purpose was just not to be a service provider, but to also use it as ministry to create an atmosphere for clients to feel their importance in this world. I account my propose from being authentic and unmatched because as we all know everyone has a place in this world, I just so happened to find mine at the age of 36. I am not ashamed of starting over, but at that age, I wanted to do what my heart desired and not what gave me security. I was up for the challenge of mastering my own challenges to live out my dream of being an esthetician. My purposes derived not only from believing I could do it but also feeling the unction that there was a purpose I was to fulfill that was outside of myself. The road was just not about me but about making an impact on others’ lives. Regardless of the trials and tribulations that came, I know it was my purpose to stop working in healthcare and to pursue my dream of being an esthetician. Even though it was an easy but sacrificial decision, I am glad my purpose has been fulfilled with more to come. Even after all this time, the building blocks are still creating a longer path for my future and expanding my purpose in life.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As a passionate entrepreneur, I believe that my journey in business has opened a new aspect of who I am which has shaped me into who I am today with values and successes. At the age of 20, I worked at a department store at a Clinique beauty counter. That was the start of my journey. As, I loved the beauty aspect of skincare and makeup, it felt like a dream to be part of this establishment to help other women find their beauty. Besides now, I would say it was my favorite job! Aside from that, twenty-five years ago, I had a vision that I was going to have my own business one day. I ran in my mom and dad’s room and said “Mom! I’m going to have my own spa business one day!” She said, “Good Jessica, you keep working towards that!” I was a young college student studying to get my associate’s in business marketing. It was an odd vision at that time, but I truly believed that it would happen one day. As I went through college and life, it was put on the back burned and soon forgotten. I went back to school to be a phlebotomist at a hospital, got married, had a little girl, and life just took over. Years later, I got the opportunity to work at a doctor’s office and soon wanted a part time job. Guess where I went? I ended up at another department store but this time it was at Estee’ Lauder. After working there, the vision came emerging back to my remembrance and that was when I wanted to put my purpose into reality.
Not long after working at the doctors office, I became a single mother, that’s when I decided to pursue my vision, I visited Kenneth Schuler three times before making the final decision to be an esthetician.
I went to Kenneth Schuler in August of 2018 and graduated in April of 2019. That was a proud moment, and I soon began to embark on my journey as a licensed esthetician. Long story short, I ended up working with the second owner of Forever Yung Day Spa. It was only a short while when she sold the business to me and I became the business owner of Forever Yung Day Spa in October 2019. For it all to make sense, it was an exciting time but then it was a nervous time for many business owners since Covid was just around the corner. As a new business, owner I thought about what challenges were ahead, but it was not going to stop me from continuing my vision.
Not too long ago, I decided to rebrand slowly and create the spa around who I am. So the spa is now called Forever Young Spa LLC. I am so proud of the changes made. Even though at this moment I am still in the transition phase, it has been a liberating experience to keep the momentum but take it to another level.
What I focus more on in my business is helping women feel beautiful not only on the outside but the inside as well. I have created an atmosphere to bring relaxation and renewing to the forefront for my clients.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back the three areas in which were most impactful in my journey was tenacity, passion, and customer service. It takes much strength to build a business that will sustain the test of times. The gradual building blocks for my journey has been to never to give up on the things most important. I have always aspired to gain insight by watching leaders and being a leader all at the same time. It takes the act of being pushed for success even when it does not even look like it. Greater or small in business, it does not matter. What matters is how passionate you are about your craft and growing to be better in the aspects that make me who I am. I challenge others to also be themselves and the right people will come. Being passionate about being an esthetician has never aged. I have continued to stay focused on the goals that have been set as well as creating new ones that are and will soon be challenged and overcome. One thing for sure is I love to see the satisfaction of my clients who feel like they have found their place. A place of relaxation and renewing. As I have incorporated many values in my spa, one that stands at the top is the golden rule. “Treat others the way you would like to be treated.” With this, I want clients to get a sense of peace from the time they walk in the spa until the time they exit. It just does not end there, I want it to leave a positive impression that their service was top notch. I value my clients time and I appreciate their business so why not treat them they way they want to be treated? I advise upcoming and current professionals to think on this, elevation does not happen overnight so be patient and have grace for you and others. Your journey is your building blocks for the next chapter in your life.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
As my faith in God is very important to me, I grew up with the foundation of being encapsulated in following God through the steps set before me. The book that most resonates to me is the Bible. With the many historical stories, poetry, prophetic writings, life, teachings, and Jesus Christ; my favorite is the Book of Proverbs which consists of wisdom. With this wisdom, it has guided me to different heights in every avenue in my life. As I read it, I get more clarity of how to not only be as a person but also how to handle business. If you look closely, there are many scriptures about business in the Bible. Life lessons can be compared and as a standpoint of how to process them has been most effective by being present in the Word of God. I truly believe this foundation has catapulted me to higher heights that are imaginable. As I go through the processes, wisdom is always there, I just have to search for it.
“Commit to the Lord in whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.” Proverbs 16:3
