Meet Jessica Lane

We were lucky to catch up with Jessica Lane recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jessica, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

I faced issues with confidence and self-esteem for a long time. Looking back, I believe it was influenced by insecurities, seeking approval from others, and being around individuals with a negative mindset. I strongly believe that we often can become a product of our own environment that does shape who we are as a person and impacts our growth. Eventually, I grew tired and desired for change.

The turning point came when I prioritized myself and realized that the people around me couldn’t provide the support nor validation I needed. Progress only began when I distanced myself and focused on loving me. I believe self-care is important; solitude allows for reflection, spiritual connection, and discovering your passions. My confidence came when I chose to put myself first and protect my peace and happiness. I feel that by surrounding myself with positive, motivated individuals who shared my same aspirations and dreams lead to my growth in confidence and self-esteem.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am the owner of the Office Geeks, LLC that is a virtual assistant agency in Winston Salem, NC where I employ a team of virtual assistants that provides a wide range of virtual services to business owners all across the United States. We pride ourselves on helping businesses run smoothly by taking care of their administrative and operational needs.

I also run an eCommerce site called All Thngz Geeked, which is a spin-off of Office Geeks, LLC. Our motto is “Where Urban Style Meets Geeked-Chic.” There, you can find a variety of eyewear, handbags, makeup and hair accessories. On top of my professional ventures, I am a licensed North Carolina Real Estate agent with J S Premier Real Estate and enjoy working with buyers/sellers in the real estate market.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The three key qualities that have greatly influenced my journey are discipline, honesty, and a positive mindset. These qualities I feel serve as the foundation for a successful business. Discipline is essential to maintain focus on your work without distractions, paying careful attention to detail. When your attention shifts elsewhere, it’s easy to lose sight of your vision, goals, and tasks, resulting in missed opportunities. Its okay to enjoy yourself, however, remember to prioritize completing your business tasks before participating in leisure activities.

Being truthful is essential in my role as a business owner. I am a firm believer that honesty builds trust, which helps attract and keep clients over time. I believe that any business grounded in honesty will thrive successfully.

When it comes to maintaining a positive mindset, I firmly believe that what you speak over your business and life greatly influences its success. Personally, I rely on positive affirmations to guide my life and ventures. Negativity can be a heavy burden, impacting not only yourself but also those in your circle and your business. It’s important to stay positive and upbeat to sustain the drive and vitality of your business. You can’t manage your business effectively when you’re not feeling your best self.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

The most impactful things my parents gave was through their love, encouragement, and acceptance of my failures. Instead of shielding me from mistakes like some parents might do, they allowed me to face difficulties independently; whether good or bad. I appreciate the values they instilled in me about embracing failure as a natural aspect of life and recognizing that decisions have consequences. Doing so has shaped me into a resilient person, inspiring me to continuously strive for self-improvement and personal growth.
