Meet Jessica Lara

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jessica Lara. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jessica below.

Hi Jessica, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I would have to say my work ethic comes from my better half, my husband. Since the young age of 15 we have grown up together and built this life we have from the ground up. So I want to give credit where its due, because he has truly been my rock through all of this. When we were 23, my husbands job got relocated to Ohio. We were thousands of dollars in debt, living in a whole new state and town where we knew not a single person. Eventually, I met a very special friend who became my very first makeup client and her daughter my second. It was there and then I really realized not only was I good at it, I enjoyed it. I spent countless of hours watching videos trying to better myself. Of course my husband encouraged me to reach for my dreams when I told him about my goals to become a makeup artist. When we moved back to texas I took initiative towards my future so I started with family and friends which lead to me posting online, where I caught the eye of a company that would later help me get certified. I met my mentor shortly after, she helped me with the ins and outs and motivated me through the obsticales.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
So a little more about myself, I am a mother of 4 and a young business owner looking to grow in the bridal makeup and hair industry. I love putting my art together for women to feel their utmost best on one of the most important days of their life. One thing that sets JessLBeauty apart from the rest is you can be sure when you trust in us on your special day, we come as a team! I will always make sure I travel with my ladies to ensure your day will go as perfectly as possible.
For every session, we provide a free touch-up kit for the bride and her party. A couple of exciting events are in the works for the JessLBeauty Team. I plan on starting my own workshops and open houses at well-known venues.
Also eventually being able to provide master classes for upcoming artists trying to perfect their skills or for clients just wanting to learn how to do their own glam. I see every day I wake up as a new opportunity the lord has given me to push myself a little further than the day before.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back on my own personal growth and experience if I could give anyone any advice, It would be to stay consistent!!! If the art truly makes you happy and you have the passion for it, you have to stay consistent!!! It is the key to unlocking the full potential that is inside you. Take classes that will help you improve your skill. Take advise from fellow artists that inspire you to take it one step further every day!
Lastly, never be scared to invest in yourself! You never know what is on the other side of that closed door if you’re to scared to open it.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
I think a lot of working women can agree with me when I say, the biggest challenge I face is balancing the time management we need between work, home & kids. I am building a business and it requires a lot of my time for me to succeed. At the same time, I always want to make sure my family, along the way, is happy, healthy, and cared for because they are the reason I have taken my passion for beauty this far.
