Meet Jessica Lauren Johnson

We were lucky to catch up with Jessica Lauren Johnson recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jessica Lauren , thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

As a real estate agent and a single mother, being the only one in the room who looks like me has often felt like both a challenge and an opportunity. I’ve learned to turn this into a strength by staying true to myself and focusing on the unique value I bring to the table.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve embraced is preparation. Knowing my market, being confident in my skills, and anticipating the needs of my clients ensures that I’m always ready to shine. I also lean into my ability to connect with people on a personal level—whether it’s listening to their stories, understanding their goals, or simply offering a perspective they hadn’t considered.

Most importantly, I remind myself that my presence in the room is proof that I belong there. I approach each interaction with authenticity, confidence, and the drive to build lasting relationships, which ultimately makes me stand out for all the right reasons.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

As a dedicated real estate agent, I help individuals and families navigate one of the most significant decisions of their lives—buying or selling a home. For me, the most exciting part of my work is witnessing the joy and relief that comes with finding the perfect home or closing a sale that supports my clients’ dreams. It’s about more than transactions—it’s about building relationships that last beyond the process.

What sets me apart is my commitment to understanding each client’s unique needs and goals. I focus on creating a personalized experience that makes them feel supported, informed, and empowered every step of the way. My journey into real estate was motivated by the desire to provide a better life for my child, which fuels my passion for delivering exceptional service to every client.

Right now, I’m also expanding my business by investing more in community engagement and innovative marketing strategies to serve my clients better. Whether you’re buying your first home, upgrading, or selling, I’m here to make the experience as smooth and rewarding as possible. Let’s create something extraordinary together!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, three qualities that have been most impactful in my real estate journey are resilience, adaptability, and strong communication skills.

1. Resilience: Real estate comes with its share of challenges, from rejections to unexpected setbacks. Staying resilient has allowed me to push through obstacles and keep my focus on long-term goals. My advice to anyone starting out is to embrace challenges as learning opportunities. Celebrate your small wins and remind yourself why you started.

2. Adaptability: The market, client needs, and industry trends are always changing. Being open to learning and pivoting when necessary has been crucial. For newcomers, I recommend staying curious—whether that means seeking mentorship, attending workshops, or simply asking questions. The more adaptable you are, the more opportunities you’ll see.

3. Communication Skills: Building strong relationships depends on clear and empathetic communication. Whether you’re negotiating a deal or simply listening to your clients’ needs, how you connect with people matters. Practice active listening and find your authentic voice when speaking with clients—it will make a world of difference.

For those early in their journey, focus on self-growth and building confidence in these areas. Invest time in personal development, embrace every experience as a lesson, and never stop striving to be better than you were yesterday.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I feel overwhelmed, I focus on breaking things down into manageable steps. Real estate is a fast-paced business, and juggling multiple responsibilities can feel like a lot at times. When that happens, I pause, prioritize, and tackle one thing at a time.

One strategy that helps me is creating a to-do list and categorizing tasks by urgency. Seeing everything laid out gives me clarity and helps me regain control. I also make sure to set boundaries—taking a short break, going for a walk, or spending time with my child helps me recharge and approach my work with a fresh perspective.

Another key is remembering my “why.” When I remind myself of my goals and the reasons I started this journey, it motivates me to push through. My advice? Don’t be afraid to step back and regroup when needed, and ask for help if it feels like too much. Balance is essential, and taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of your clients.
