We were lucky to catch up with Jessica Macias recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jessica, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
Our resilience is rooted in faith and our up bringing. Its something that i think we’ve developed and something only life can teach.
David grew up hustling in the streets of NYC. As a kid, he’d be out in Chinatown selling imitation bags, and when it rained, he’d switch to umbrellas. He was always thinking ahead, always finding a way to make something happen. He cared for his younger brothers and taking them to school on the train. He had to grow up fast. That drive and grit is part of who he is, hes not afraid of challenges and tackles them head on.
I grew up in Puerto Rico, where life was simple. My mother was a single mom and didnt drive and I remember we’d walk to and from the grocery store with bags in hand under the hot sun. My mother was a single mom and did the best she could to raise us and provide for my brother and I. But as i was growing up, i knew i wanted more. When I moved to Florida, with my dad everything shifted. I started to see what was possible. My mind expanded, and i saw the possibilities. More choices, more freedom, more opportunity. Not just for me, but for the family I hoped to have one day.
I never thought Real Estate would become our main source of income but since getting furloughed in 2020 and depending on an employer for our livelihood changed everything. Every move we’ve made after being furloughed from becoming investors to leaving the security of 9 to 5 jobs, was intentional and filled with uncertainty. But we’ve always trusted that God doesn’t make mistakes. Even when things felt unclear or hard, we believed He had a bigger plan for us.
Becoming parents deepened our resilience in a way we couldn’t have anticipated. When our son was diagnosed with severe autism, it was one of the most challenging seasons of our lives. There were so many unknowns, so many tears, and moments of deep exhaustion, but we never gave up on him. And now, 4 to 5 years later, Kaliam can speak and has a milder autism spectrum. He transitioned from a school for special needs to a regular public school. We know the journey isn’t over, but we’ve made incredible progress. That fight, that faith, and that daily choice to keep moving forward has shaped us both in life and in business.
We also know that a lot of families are struggling right now. Feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of their next move in this market. We get it. We’ve been through heavy seasons too. That’s why we show up. We want to help families move forward with clarity and the least amount of stress possible. We’ll walk through the options together so they can make the best decision for whatever chapter they’re in.
This is about more than just real estate. We’re helping people protect what they’ve built, move on when they need to, and build legacy for the future. That’s what keeps us going. That’s Haus M.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
At Haus M, we specialize in helping families navigate big life transitions, whether it’s upsizing, downsizing, or preparing a home for sale with minor renovations. What started as a personal journey, house hacking our own home to build wealth, has grown into a full-service real estate business rooted in strategy, care, and legacy-building. I work alongside my husband, David, who focuses on buyers and renovations, while I lead the marketing, listings, and business operations. Together, we’ve created something truly special.
What excites me most is that real estate has the power to change lives. It changed ours. We’ve seen how owning a home can give families more freedom, stability, and opportunity, and we love helping others experience that for themselves. For us, it’s not just about selling a house. It’s about helping people make the best decision for their stage of life while protecting their wealth and reducing stress during what can be an emotional time.
What makes our brand different is how personal it is. We’re a family business that truly shows up for other families. Our clients become friends, and our community is at the heart of everything we do. We host events, educate on topics like estate planning and trusts, and we’re big on meeting people where they are. No pressure, just clarity and care.
Right now, we’re expanding business, we’ve hired a Virtual Assistant and may be looking for an Executive Admin by end of 2025, or beginning of 2026. We have also expanded our offerings with more educational resources, and tools for both buyers and sellers. We’ve launched the Haus M Renovation Program and its in full swing. where we partner with our in-house painting company to offer minor home updates that sellers can pay for at closing. It’s been a game changer for those who want top dollar but aren’t sure where to start.
We’re also working on a digital course. one is designed to help people build wealth called Foundation to Freedom. We were scheduled to launch over the summer but we had to put that on hold as the real estate business took off but were hoping by end of year or beginning of 2026 we can launch it. We do have a waitlist you can sign up to and stay updated on when we will release it.
At the core of it all, we believe in leading with faith, family, and authenticity plus using our story and the stories of the people we’ve helped to help others write their next chapter.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Resilience has been everything. I’ve failed many times. The first was my makeup business….I poured so much into it, but eventually realized it wasn’t sustainable long-term, i reached a ceiling and didnt know how to get past it. At the time, it felt like a loss, but now I know God had a bigger plan.
Looking back, I’d say the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been resilience, strategic thinking, relationship-building and ill add one more which is faith without that the others cant happen.
Resilience and faith has been everything. From getting furloughed during COVID, to navigating my son’s autism diagnosis, to starting over in a new industry, there have been so many moments where it would’ve been easier to quit. But I kept showing up. For anyone starting out, just know that your ability to bounce back and stay the course especially when things feel hard or uncertain, is a muscle you build over time. Don’t be afraid of failure. Let it shape you, not stop you. Fail forward is a term we use a lot in Real Estate.
Strategic thinking helped me take what I learned from HR and the beauty industry and apply it in a completely different space. Whether it was investing or house hacking our first home, creating systems in my real estate business, or branding, I’ve learned that being intentional with your moves matters. My advice? Don’t just work harder, think smarter. Learn how to reverse-engineer your goals, get curious about what’s working, and don’t be afraid to pivot when needed.
Relationship-building has been the heart of everything. I’ve never been the loudest voice in the room, Im actually an introvert. But I’ve always been intentional. Real estate and entrepreneurship are all about connection. For those early in their journey, lean into community. Nurture the people already around you, ask questions, stay curious, and be genuine. Relationships will take you further than any quick-win strategy ever could.
Most importantly, give yourself grace. Growth takes time, but every experience, good or hard is preparing you for where you’re meant to go lean into God for direction.

What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?
I believe in leading with your strengths, going all in on what makes you unique and then building smart support around the areas where you’re not as strong. We live in a world that’s constantly telling us to “fix” ourselves or be something we are not but I’ve found the real magic happens when you lean into what already comes naturally and brings you energy.
That said, I also believe growth requires stepping outside of your comfort zone. You have to stretch in new ways, especially when you’re building something from the ground up. If it doesn’t scare you, it probably won’t help you grow. So while I think you should focus on your strengths and stay authentic to who you are first, you’ll still need to lean into the uncomfortable to become who you’re meant to be.
There was a time early on when David and I clashed. He wanted me to do things the way *he* does them and vice versa. We were unintentionally pushing each other to work outside of our strengths, and it caused a lot of tension and lets face it. its not easy to work with your spouse 24/7. Over time, we’ve learned that we’re most effective when we stay in our lanes and respect each other’s gifts. But we’ve also had to stretch. We’ve both done things that didn’t feel natural in order to grow and figure this out.
Now that our business is growing, we’re finally in a place where we can start leveraging out the things we don’t enjoy or aren’t built for and that’s a blessing. But in the beginning, we had to wear all the hats. You have to pay your dues in anything you do. The key is knowing which areas deserve your full energy and which ones you can eventually delegate or automate.
My advice? Get clear on what you’re great at, build around that, and don’t be afraid to challenge yourself. Growth and discomfort go hand in hand but the more you honor your natural strengths, the more sustainable your success becomes.
