We were lucky to catch up with Jessica Marchant recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jessica , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I wasn’t always the most confident person, but over the years—through a lot of trial and error—I learned how to figure things out as I go. Now in my 30s, I’ve had enough experiences of overcoming challenges and making sound decisions to see a pattern: things have a way of working out. Proving that to myself again and again has been what’s really built my confidence.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I founded Blue-Sky Creative, a B2B technical design firm that supports Interior Designers, Design Builders, and Construction Companies with expert construction documentation and highly realistic 3D renderings.
This business has been years in the making. What began as a side hustle gradually and organically grew into the company it is today. Along the way, I’ve brought talented Designers onto the team and developed a streamlined process that works seamlessly for both our clients and internally. Our growth has been intentional and steady, which has allowed us to build a strong foundation.
In addition to our technical design services, we’ve always offered Vacation Rental Design. Recently, we made the decision to expand that service into its own dedicated business. This fall, we’ll be launching Day Off Interiors, a brand focused on crafting memorable guest experiences in vacation rentals and boutique commercial spaces.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
This is a question I’ve actually thought a lot about. As entrepreneurs, we gather different experiences along the way, and eventually, they all combine to shape and support the businesses we build. For me, three skills and areas of knowledge have been especially impactful.
First, my time as a Lead Designer in themed entertainment taught me how to think big, manage complex projects, and stay creative under pressure. Later, working as a Design Manager in luxury construction gave me hands-on experience with high standards, detailed processes, and problem-solving in real time. And finally, my experience with digital marketing—something I taught myself while working for a small business—has been invaluable. It’s a skill I use daily to connect with clients and grow Blue-Sky Creative.
One pivotal moment came in my 20s when I landed a job that had me presenting directly to executives at major companies. It pushed me to learn how to present clearly, engage with confidence, and hold my own in conversations with people who had far more experience and influence than me. That foundation has served me every step of the way.
My advice to anyone early in their journey is this: get really comfortable talking about what you do. Communication is one of the most powerful tools you’ll ever have. Learn how to engage with different kinds of people, and don’t be afraid of curveball questions. You don’t need to have every answer on the spot—sometimes the most professional response is, “That’s a great question. I’ll look into it and get back to you.” It shows thoughtfulness and credibility. Slow down, read the room, and trust yourself. Confidence isn’t about knowing everything—it’s about knowing you can figure it out.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
My biggest area of growth over the past year has been learning to bring in the right help—and not just any help, but expert help. I’ve hired a Bookkeeper, a Website Specialist, three Contract Designers, and a Virtual Assistant. Our team has grown from just me, to me and my husband, to now six other experts in their respective fields. Together, we’re fully equipped to tackle complex projects for our clients.
I’ll say the first hire—a Bookkeeper—was the most impactful. It was a huge lift off my shoulders and reminded me of an important lesson: as a business owner, you can’t do it all, and if you’re trying to, you’re likely not doing anything at your best. Bringing in skilled people allows the business—and you—to thrive.
