Meet Jessica Marroquin-taveras

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jessica Marroquin-taveras. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Jessica, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

Imposter syndrome is such an obstacle for many photographers in the field. I have come across imposter syndrome before and still battle with it to this day. I would say the most important way that I am able to help myself overcome the emotions with imposter syndrome is to remember to give yourself grace for showing up for something you love to do, giving it your all , and doing as best as you can. It is also important in order for us to continue growing, continuous learning is necessary to obtain even more skills than before.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Hi to all the fellow readers, My name is Jessica, I am a photographer, specializing in portrait photography. I’ve been capturing moments for over [10 years], and my passion for photography began when I decided to take my first photography class in high school, ever since then I haven’t been able to put down a camera!. Through my lens, I aim to tell stories, evoke emotions, and showcase the beauty of the world in ways that might otherwise go unnoticed.

For me, photography isn’t just a job—it’s a passion. I’m constantly inspired by the world around me, and I find joy in discovering new perspectives and bringing them into focus. It’s a lifelong journey of learning, experimenting, and connecting with people. Every shot is a new opportunity to tell a story, and that’s what keeps me coming back to my camera, day after day.

I love that I have been able to extend my photography to reach so many beautiful clients throughout Florida. I am excited to share I service all of Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Tampa, Sarasota, and other vast areas in central florida. Being able to connect with so many kind and gentle people has been the most rewarding experience through my journey.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

My qualities that have been the most impactful to my journey has been the ability to understand the fundamentals of Photography and leverage my knowledge to my sessions as well as fellow photographers. I also believe a impactful quality is the ability to connect with my clients and being able to make them feel as if they’re family or friends. This is key to not only building long lasting relationships but also so that all of my clients feel comfortable and to be able to voice their needs and wants.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?

My biggest growth I have seen in the last year has been my work has exponentially changed, I found my style for taking portraits as well as my editing style. Beforehand I was still searching for what my style would be, now that I have found it I am hopeful to take it to the next level.

I also feel that posing of my clients has drastically changed as well, I had a mindset before that I had to have every image posed and the subjects smiling at the camera. I soon learned for Portraiture that tells a story the opposite is necessary. To be able to capture those fleeting moments, its ok to capture emotions and images that aren’t posed and looking at the camera, just natural.
