Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jessica Mehraban. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jessica, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
I believe my optimism comes from my gratitude practice. Gratitude, for me, is not just a routine but a deep-rooted part of who I am. Every morning, I take a moment to acknowledge three things I’m grateful for, whether they’re big achievements or small moments of joy. What I’ve come to realize the more I appreciate even the smallest of things, the easier and more joyful life becomes. My gratitude ritual is like a daily reset that has rewired my brain to view life with a positive mindset and find happiness in the simplicity of everyday moments.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Hello beautiful humans! I’m Jessica Mehraban, a board-certified Functional Medicine PA-C. Professionally, my primary focus is on personalized medicine, where I tailor health protocols to unique needs. Daily, I witness individuals regain their vitality, overcome chronic health challenges, and discover a renewed sense of well-being. My mission centers around promoting longer and healthier lives while empowering individuals to live a vibrant, joyful, and mindful life.
One particularly exciting recent launch is my e-book, “Healthy Gut, Happy Life.” As Hippocrates said, “All disease begins within the gut.” I created this e-book to help empower people on how to maintain a healthy gut and provide them with real-life tools they can incorporate into their daily lives. The gut is the foundation of overall well-being, and everyone should be empowered with the knowledge of how to foster a healthy gut.
Additionally, I’m thrilled to share that I recently co-founded The Functional Social Club, a group membership program. Through The Functional Social Club, members gain access to nutritional recipes, health hacks, educational workshops, and even our master class, all while fostering a sense of community on their wellness journeys. You can follow our journey on Instagram (@functionalsocialclub).
As I continue to expand and share my passion for well-being, I look forward to connecting with more individuals who are ready to embark on a journey towards a healthier and happier life.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Firstly, resilience has played a crucial role in my journey. The ability to bounce back from setbacks, learn from failures, and view challenges as opportunities for growth has been instrumental in shaping my path.
Secondly, stepping out of my comfort zone has been transformative. Embracing discomfort, seeking new perspectives, and exploring unfamiliar territories has allowed me to adapt and flourish.
Lastly, continuous learning has been a driving force. Actively seeking opportunities for education, whether through formal courses, workshops, or self-directed learning and reading, has been crucial for staying effective in my field.
For those at the early stages of their journey, my advice is to prioritize stepping out of your comfort zone. Ask yourself each day: What are you doing today to step out of your comfort zone? The roles we take on in life are limited by our perception of ourselves, and our current perception might be confined by our comfort zone. Allowing ourselves to start new things and make mistakes is where magical growth happens. Leaving our comfort zone requires willpower and a change in mindset, but it creates new paths and opens doors to personal growth. Remember, we have only one lifetime to live our dreams.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I find myself overwhelmed, I have a go-to strategy that never fails to bring me a sense of calm and balance: breathwork, specifically the 4,7,8 breathing technique. This practice helps shift the body into the parasympathetic state, often referred to as the “rest and digest” state, promoting a state of calm and peace. Derived from an ancient yogic technique called pranayama, where “prana” signifies life energy and “yama” means control, this simple yet powerful tool is a staple in my stress-relief toolkit. The technique involves inhaling through the nose for four counts, holding the breath for seven counts, and exhaling through the mouth for eight counts, repeated three times. The rhythmic and intentional nature of this breathing technique helps shift my body into a calm serene state.
