Meet Jessica Morissette

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jessica Morissette. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jessica below.

Jessica, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

Building resilience, much like constructing anything else, is a gradual process. Similar to organic social media marketing, it requires time, consistency, and effort. Entrepreneurship presents numerous challenges. Failures are inevitable, and things don’t always go as planned. It’s an ongoing journey of education and adaptation. However, viewing these setbacks as opportunities to learn and grow enables us to get back up when we fall down and move forward from difficult experiences.

Personally, my resilience stems from being a determined, goal-driven person, but it has very much evolved and has become stronger the second I decided to start my entrepreneurship journey. Once I set my mind to something, I pursue it relentlessly. The path of entrepreneurship has tested me repeatedly, and undoubtedly, it will continue to do so. Nevertheless, I believe entrepreneurs evolve into some of the most resilient individuals over time. We refuse to abandon our dreams or the passion we wish to share with the world. With that said, my resilience comes from my inability to give up on what I’m passionate about.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m the founder and CEO of JM Virtual Solutions, LLC. JMVS specializes in strategic, goal-driven social media management and strategy that goes beyond trends and tactics for female service-based business owners. I launched JMVS in late 2020 after being laid off from a seven-year career within the hospitality industry. I was currently working toward my Master of Science degree in marketing with a concentration in social media and realized the potential and demand for this service in the online space, so JMVS was born.

Although it was entirely new to me and my first year in business was extremely tough, I am happy to have started this business as today I am fortunate to be able to work with some of the most incredible women in business and support them with their social media needs. What I love most about social media is the ability to connect. Marketing is a relationship and social media is a powerful tool for business owners to not only connect and build relationships with their audience but to also make an impact, and I absolutely love empowering businesses to do so.

I am excited about the direction JMVS is heading, as I believe in a well-rounded digital marketing approach to business, JMVS will be expanding its services from social media management and strategy to also including, email marketing, lead magnet and funnel creation, blog writing, and paid ads.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Reflecting on my journey, the following skills stand out as being particularly impactful:

Adaptability – Transitioning from a stable career in hospitality to founding JM Virtual Solutions demanded adaptability. Being open to change and willing to pivot when necessary was crucial. My advice for those starting their journey is to embrace adaptability. Stay flexible and be willing to adjust your plans and strategies as needed. This might involve learning new skills, exploring different approaches, or even reconsidering your initial goals.

Resilience – Starting a business, especially during challenging times, requires resilience. There were setbacks and obstacles along the way, but continuing to move through those tough times ultimately led to growth and success. For those early in their journey, understand that setbacks are a natural part of the entrepreneurial process. Stay focused on your long-term vision and keep pushing forward.

Being Able to Connect With People – Through my years working in hospitality, I’ve really learned how to listen and connect with people, which has become very useful in marketing and business. This ability to empathize and relate has been invaluable in building relationships with clients and understanding their needs.

Overall, for anyone who is just starting out on their journey, my advice to you is to always be willing to evolve, adapt, and lean into continuous learning. Most of all, no matter what, always keep moving forward, the road looks different for everyone, you will hit road bumps and crossroads, but that road will lead you to your destination.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

One of my favorite books is The 1-Page Marketing Plan by Allan Dib. This book has a lot of great marketing advice, but the key takeaway was being able to simplify marketing which is something I aim to teach my audience, how to simplify social media marketing and most of all make it fun so they can enjoy the process.

There is one quote in this book that has always stuck with me, it goes something like this: “Knowing something and not implementing it, is the same as not knowing”

There is a lot of information out there and as a continuous learner, this hit hard because if we don’t do anything with the knowledge we have, if we don’t implement what we have learned, what was the point of learning it in the first place?
