Meet Jessica Morris

We were lucky to catch up with Jessica Morris recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jessica , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I went through a phase of self development. I was basically depressed and suicidal which lead me to crying and praying to God. After 5 minutes of getting up from that prayer I came across this special effect DIY video on instagram and I thought it was cool. I attempted to create a realistic fake wound as a method of coping with depression rather than actually cutting on myself. I loved how it turned out so I posted it on my page and my followers reaction towards it was them saying “you should go to Hollywood, to work on movies.”
So I became consistent with the craft and pursued a career in special effect makeup which is now my business.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

My name is Jessica Morris. I am 25 years of age, born and raise in St.Ann Jamaica. I am the owner of JESSE EFFECT.
JESSE EFFECT offers special effect makeup, kids face paint, Beauty makeup, barber service, realistic prosthetic hearts and body parts.
I was raised by my dad which he plays a huge role in my career development. He created the space for me to definitely find myself, for me to be able to see what I was good at etc. He has always been my root and my biggest supporter.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Base on my journey pursuing my career as a special effect makeup artist/Entrepreneur and barber. The three qualities I had to adopt ,to be consistent, persistent and be self motivated and also to be able to achieve my goals.
My advice to anyone that’s looking to achieve these qualities is to adjust your mind by stepping out of your comfort zone. Growth doesn’t take place in comfort zones. In regards to being self motivated this is a very important quality to have and the best way to improve on it is to get up and get started.
You won’t always feel motivated however once you get up and get started the motivation will come.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am definitely looking to collaborate/work with people in the film or movie industry such as artist, directors etc. I want to see my work in films/movies.
If anyone wants to work together, can definitely contact me via Instagram DM or WhatsApp (876)572-1795.
