Meet Jessica Pogue

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jessica Pogue a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Jessica, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

Imposter syndrome is something I have struggled with since I’ve started photography. I think just staying true to myself, my passion, and what I want my business to be has helped a lot. When booking with clients- I make sure my style and the way I run business matches what they are wanting. This has helped minimize negative feed back with finalized photos and has kept my clients happy!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

My name is Jessica Pogue and I own Pogue Photography!
I photograph family, maternity, fresh 48, seniors, and really anything that people throw my way! I strongly base my business on everyone deserves to have professional photos taken!
If you don’t have the money for a session, maybe you make something and we can do a trade.
All of my regular sessions and mini shoots come with a viewing gallery. This way you get to pick the photos you like. All weddings and by the hour events receive a usb with all their images on them!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I think the most important quality/skill for any business, not just mine, is being a kind person. Have patience, because we have all been through it and if not yet maybe one day.
Being true to yourself and your business- you know best what you want your image to look like. Stay true to it, not every customer is the best fit customer for you. Unfortunately there will be some you’ll have to decline service to. It’s best for both parties!
Lastly- have fun! If you don’t enjoy what you’re doing- change it up! I always say, “you pick your job” if it isn’t meeting your standards, switch it up!

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?

I think the biggest obstacle is branding myself- getting my name out there and showing my potential. There are a lot of fantastic photographers in my area and it’s not easy to get people to book even free sessions. I just keep pushing on, staying positive, and show appreciation for those who have booked with me and continue to spead my name around!
