We were lucky to catch up with Jessica Qian recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jessica, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I believe the key to sustaining creativity lies in maintaining an open-minded approach to all kinds of information. I embrace diverse perspectives and ideas, allowing them to fuel my creative process. Additionally, I prioritize self-analysis, which enables me to discern which artistic knowledge and skills align best with my creative vision. By continuously learning and absorbing relevant insights, I ensure a steady influx of inspiration. Equally important is carving out solitary time for reflection and creation. This solitude provides the mental space needed to delve deep into ideas, explore new concepts, and ultimately bring fresh creativity to my work.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my journey, I consider three qualities to be particularly impactful: time management, open-mindedness, and steadfast artistic principles.
Firstly, effective time management has been crucial. Balancing work, learning, and rest is essential for optimal creativity. Early in your journey, prioritize allocating time wisely to both hone your craft and rejuvenate your mind for better creative output.
Secondly, cultivating an open mind is paramount. Embrace diverse perspectives and experiences. Travel, engage in dialogue, and immerse yourself in different cultures. This broadens your horizons, enriching your creative process. However, always maintain the ability to critically evaluate and reflect on these encounters.
Lastly, unwavering artistic principles are fundamental. Amidst differing opinions and challenges, having a strong sense of your artistic values is vital. This provides stability and confidence, allowing you to navigate uncertainties and stay true to your vision. To those starting their journey, I advise developing and refining these qualities diligently. They serve as pillars for sustained growth and success in the creative field.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
The person who has been most helpful in helping me overcome challenges and develop essential skills is Gab3. He has been incredibly influential in my life. As an artist with strong individualistic ideas and a steadfast commitment to his work, Gab3 has consistently encouraged me to pursue my creative vision without fear of being too ahead of the curve. Despite the fact that many of our endeavors may not always align with immediate market demands, he has instilled in me the importance of staying true to my artistic instincts and persevering in my output. His unwavering support and guidance have been invaluable to my growth and development as a creative individual.
