Meet Jessica Quinlan

We were lucky to catch up with Jessica Quinlan recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jessica, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.

Keeping my creativity alive in photography involves immersing myself in the world around me and finding inspiration in everyday moments. I prioritize continuous learning and exploration, whether through traveling, studying the work of other photographers, or connecting with fellow artists. Engaging in personal creative projects and experimenting with different techniques helps me push the boundaries of my comfort zone and discover new perspectives. I also ensure I take time for self-care and reflection, allowing my mind to rest and recharge. Ultimately, staying curious and open to new experiences fuels my passion and keeps my creative spirit thriving in every shot I take.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

As a lifestyle and documentary-style photographer based in New Port Richey, FL, I capture the beauty and emotion of everyday moments. My work is characterized by its soft, warm, and emotive qualities, focusing on the details that tell a story. What excites me most about my work is the ability to freeze a fleeting moment in time, creating images that evoke feelings and memories for my clients. I strive to make each session a unique and personal experience, reflecting the individuality of those I photograph.

I am always looking for a way to give back to my clients & community, providing an accessible option for capturing special moments. I love volunteering my time and services to assist organizations and offer it to those who cannot always afford the luxury of a pro photog. I’m also expanding my services to reach a wider audience in the Tampa Bay area and beyond, always looking for new ways to connect with potential clients, other photographers, and feature pages. My goal is to continually evolve and grow as an artist, bringing warmth and emotion to every image I create.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, three qualities that were most impactful in my journey as a photographer are creativity, adaptability, and empathy. Creativity is essential for finding unique perspectives and capturing the essence of a moment. To develop this, I recommend continually seeking inspiration, experimenting with different styles, and allowing yourself the freedom to make mistakes and learn from them.

Adaptability is crucial, especially in a field where every shoot presents new challenges. Whether it’s dealing with unpredictable weather, working in various lighting conditions, or managing client expectations, being flexible and resourceful is key. My advice is to practice shooting in different environments and scenarios, and always have a backup plan.

Empathy helps me connect with my clients on a deeper level, allowing me to capture their true emotions and personalities. Building strong relationships and understanding their stories makes a significant difference in the quality of the images. For those early in their journey, focus on honing your people skills, actively listen to your clients, and strive to create a comfortable and trusting atmosphere during your sessions.

By developing these qualities, you can create meaningful and impactful work that resonates with both you and your clients!

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?

My ideal client is someone who values the beauty in everyday moments and appreciates the emotive, storytelling aspect of photography. They are often seeking to capture authentic, heartfelt images that reflect their unique personalities and relationships. These clients are open to collaboration, willing to embrace spontaneity, and trust my creative vision to document their stories in a genuine and meaningful way. They value the warm, soft, and detailed aesthetic that defines my work and are looking for a photographer who can create lasting memories through a personalized and thoughtful approach.
