We recently connected with Jessica Ridley and have shared our conversation below.
Jessica , thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
My optimism is rooted in a deep faith in Jesus and a sense of purpose that’s grown with me through every chapter of my life. I believe that each day, each opportunity, and even each challenge holds something positive, something to learn from. This perspective was strengthened by my journey in the music industry and entrepreneurial ventures, where I’ve learned that persistence, creativity, and a grateful heart can turn any situation into an opportunity for growth. My faith is a big part of it, reminding me to trust that I’m guided and that good things are always possible.
I also get a lot of encouragement from the incredible people around me, from my family to my audience, who believe in my work and inspire me to keep reaching higher. Seeing others touched by my music or my classes lifts me and fuels my optimism. I’ve come to see optimism as a choice and a habit—it’s a way of approaching life that keeps me moving forward with joy and hope, no matter what lies ahead.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a singer-songwriter, performer, and creator, and my work is all about connecting with people through music. I’ve had the honor of opening for incredible artists like Luke Bryan and Lady Gaga, headlining shows on Broadway in Nashville, and reaching number 62 on the Billboard charts with my single *Flaming Red,* a song co-written by Bob Carlisle and my husband, Dennis Patton. Winning *The Big Time* on ABC was a defining moment for me, and it set me on an unforgettable path where I’ve been able to share my heart with audiences across the country and even on tour in the UK. For me, the most exciting part is creating music that resonates with people on a personal level—whether it’s a powerful lyric or an unforgettable performance, I love that music has the power to uplift and connect.
Outside of music, I’m also passionate about my side ventures in natural living and homemaking, where I run Flower Power Breads & Blooms and produce a line of natural pet supplements through Jenesis Pets. These projects are extensions of the creativity and connection I aim to bring to my life and brand, helping others discover small joys and holistic well-being. Currently, I’m focused on some exciting developments, including planning future tours and exploring new ways to share my music and handmade products with a broader audience. Whether on stage or in business, my brand is about authenticity, warmth, and a commitment to bringing people together in meaningful ways.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, three qualities that have had the most impact on my journey are resilience, a commitment to authenticity, and a spirit of continuous learning. Resilience was essential, especially in the early days of my music career, when facing challenges and rejections felt like a constant test. When I started on stage and in the studio, I was SO green and I had so many embarrassing moments. Learning to keep going, to find the lesson in every experience, and to trust that setbacks don’t define you has been invaluable. For anyone starting out, I’d say to embrace obstacles as opportunities for growth—they often lead to your greatest strengths and breakthroughs.
Authenticity has also been central to my work, from writing music that’s true to my own story to creating products that align with my values. Being genuine not only makes the work more fulfilling, but it also resonates with others in a deeper way. My advice would be to stay true to what matters most to you; people connect with honesty, and that connection can open doors you never imagined. Lastly, a mindset of continuous learning has helped me evolve and stay excited about new possibilities, whether in music, business, or life. If you’re just starting out, don’t be afraid to try new things, take advice, and stay curious but also to trust your gut and not outsource too much!
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am always looking for co-writers and duet partners! Bring it on! I also would love to connect with veterinarians to introduce them to my company Jenesis Pets and our pet urinary support supplement that is garnering rave reviews! Lastly, I am always looking to inspire and teach others how to make incredible STRESS-FREE sourdough bread! It’s an eclectic mix but it makes for such a fulfilling, (yummy), inspiring life!
