We recently connected with Jessica Trevino and have shared our conversation below.
Jessica , so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
My optimism comes from a deep, intentional choice I made early in life. Growing up in a toxic and negative environment, I saw firsthand the effects of pessimism, and I chose the opposite path. I believe a positive mindset has the power to shape positive outcomes, and while optimism comes naturally to me, I am also very intentional about it. When challenges arise, I make a conscious effort to shift my perspective and find the good in every situation. Over time, this has become second nature—I instinctively look for purpose, growth, and gratitude in all experiences, whether good, bad, or difficult.
My faith, personal values, and life experiences have shaped this mindset, and my perseverance has reinforced it. I truly believe everything happens for a reason, and even setbacks hold valuable lessons. Professionally, my authentic positivity helps me build meaningful connections, creating relationships based on trust and shared optimism.
Living with a gratitude mindset and prioritizing wellness in mind, body, and spirit also plays a significant role in maintaining my outlook. I believe joy is contagious, and I make it a priority to spread positivity to those around me. Optimism isn’t just about seeing the bright side—it’s about embracing all of life’s moments with faith, resilience, and the belief that every experience serves a greater purpose.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a Business Development professional. Because the nature of my work is to connect with people and build meaningful relationships, my brand is built on who I am, what I stand for, and the value I bring to each and every interaction. I build relationships based on authenticity with intention and I genuinely enjoy helping others. I have been told that my positive energy is contagious and that it makes people want to work with me. I don’t just network, I create opportunities for collaboration, partnership, and business success.
I represent AOS Engineering; an MEP Engineering and Design Firm and I am so grateful that I have been entrusted to grow the Houston market with total autonomy. My personal brand aligned with the way AOS Engineering conducts business, this is why I have been able to be successful in my work. I absolutely love what I do! My brand – our brand- is about connection, growth, and positivity. By consistently showing up – both with my online branding efforts and in person at networking events, I feel that and have been told by colleagues that I have reinforced my reputation as a trusted, sought-after business development and marketing professional in the AEC and Commercial Real Estate spaces.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey:
1. Authentic Relationship Building – The ability to genuinely connect with people has been at the core of my success. I don’t just network – I build real, meaningful relationships based on trust, collaboration, and mutual support. The advice that I would give to those early in their journey is to focus on being authentic and intentional on their connections. Instead of just collecting contacts, I would tell them that they need to nurture their network by being helpful, supportive, and present. Relationships are the foundation of long-term success.
2. Resilience & Adaptability – Business Development and Marketing are dynamic fields, and setbacks are inevitable. I’ve learned that tenacity, a growth mindset, and the ability to adapt to change are crucial for progress. I am always pivoting! The advice that I would give in this regard is not to fear failure – embrace it as a learning opportunity. Stay flexible, keep an open mind, and be willing to evolve. Every challenge is a chance to grow stronger and refine your approach.
3. Strategic Thinking & Brand Positioning – Understanding how to position myself, the company I represent, and my value effectively has been key to standing out. Sucess isn’t just about hard work – it’s about working smart and being intentional with your efforts. My advice here is to invest in self-awareness and continuous learning. YOU are in charge of your success; it is up to you to develop and grow. Develop a clear understanding of your strengths, industry trends, and how you can add value. Be consistent in your personal and professional branding.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I LOVE collaborating with like-minded professionals who believe in the power of genuine connections, strategic partnerships, and community impact.
I am always looking to partner with:
– AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction), Commercial Real Estate professionals, and wellness professionals who are passionate about innovation, problem-solving, and elevating industry standards.
-Organizations that prioritize wellness, diversity, and empowerment – especially in fostering growth for women in AEC, Commercial Real Estate, business development, and leadership.
-Thought leaders, industry experts, and connectors who understand that relationships drive success and want to create meaningful opportunities for knowledge-sharing, networking, and collaboration.
If you’re reading this and feel aligned with my vision, let’s connect! You can reach out to me on LinkedIn, connect with me at industry events, or email me to explore how we can work together.
