Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jessica Walker. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jessica, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I’ve felt like I’ve known my purpose for a long time, but I’ve always been afraid of it. The unknown is terrifying, but when God shows you what He wants you to do, He will provide everything you need to get His work done.
When I finally stopped worrying about what others would say or think—whether I would lose friends or family support, or whether I was capable of such a task—and just trusted God’s plan for my life, everything became clear and easier to do.
God has blessed me with a gift to teach, motivate, and encourage His people, and a talent to create. My purpose is simply to use my gifts and talents to spread His love and His Word.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I consider myself a creative, but visual art has always been my first and deepest love. I also enjoy cooking, baking desserts, and decorating cakes. Recently, I taught myself how to crochet, and I find a lot of joy in nature photography as well.
What makes my creativity so special to me is that I never get bored. God has truly blessed me with the ability to create and bring beauty into the world, and because of that, I always have something meaningful to do.
I’m especially excited about this next chapter—shifting my art into ministry. I’m stepping into what I’ve always felt called to do: sharing God’s love and message through my paintings. We are living in such dark and uncertain times, and my heart is to offer hope, love, and encouragement through the gifts God has given me.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Faith and Obedience
Trusting God and being willing to move even when I was afraid made all the difference. I had to stop waiting for the perfect time and just start.
My advice: Start by tuning in to that still, small voice inside. Pray, reflect, and stay open. The more you lean into faith, the more confident and grounded you become in your purpose.
2. Curiosity and Willingness to Learn
I’ve always been eager to learn. Whether it was teaching myself how to crochet or improving my cake decorating skills, that hunger to explore different creative outlets kept me growing.
My advice: Never stop learning. You don’t need to master everything at once, just start. Watch tutorials, ask questions, experiment. Skill grows through consistent curiosity.
3. Creating with Purpose
Knowing that my art can bring hope or encouragement makes it so much more fulfilling. That purpose keeps me going.
My advice: Think about why you create. When your work comes from a meaningful place, it resonates more deeply with others and with yourself.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, first and foremost, I pray. Matthew 11:28 says
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”
I’m dumping ALL of it at his feet and letting him handle it. I trust God’s plan, so I don’t worry about where he guides me. His plan is literally easier than trying to figure things out on my own.
