Meet Jessica Weaver

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jessica Weaver a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.

I’ve learned through and through in life that what I think about is powerful. If I want to have a good happy day, I have to keep good and happy thoughts in my head. I try very hard to stay rooted in love. In all situations, love will guide me through.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I started my photography journey because I was at a crossroads and needed a career path that allowed me to also be a full time, lone parent to my son. In the beginning it was exciting because I controlled my own time, but I quickly learned that the excitement in my job comes from making other people feel good and happy. If my clients aren’t having fun, I am NOT doing my job justice.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Knowing how to use my camera and make beautiful pictures was obviously the number one priority in the beginning but I slowly learned that being good to people and having fun was WAY more impactful on running a business. You can make the best art in the world, but people won’t love it for what it is… They will love it for what YOU are.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

It’s easy to forget, when we work for ourselves, that it is absolutely ok and even necessary to take time off. Sometimes you just need a day or two to set all work aside and focus on yourself.
