Meet Jessica Wright

We were lucky to catch up with Jessica Wright recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jessica, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

I’ve heard “no” all my life.
No, you can’t do that. No, that won’t work. No, we don’t like that. No, I don’t like you. No, you can’t have it. No, it’s not important. No, you should do this, don’t do that.
It’s not a sob story, it’s just what I kept hearing.
Every time someone said I can’t , it was a personal challenge whether they knew it or not.
People underestimating me was fuel on a fire. Hearing NO, made me strong, and it also helped me understand how easily some might fall into a pit of opinions.
In particular my art/paintings, I was told it was unimportant, waste of money, a hobby, not a career, but I was made to do this.
I’m a firm believer in “do what you love and the rest will come”. Blanks will be filled by intent, just trust the process .

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

With acrylic paint I throw, drizzle with a chopstick or use my hands to create multi textured & vivid Colorado landscapes. I love working large scale.

I do fine art shows in the mountains of Colorado and stay busy the rest of the year doing custom pieces ranging from 4×4’ to 10×6’. All created to fit a space perfectly.

It’s pure joy creating the focus of a room,
Bringing an energy that’s a translation of the wonder & beauty of the Colorado mountains.
Of course I’ve painted many things other than Aspen trees, but this is what I keep coming back to. They’re magic.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Endurance, never giving up.
Trial by fire at all times with art shows.
Holding steady to “if you build it they will come”!

Being dyslexic, seeing things a bit differently. Some say that this helps in art. With this I can see things out of order. Of course there’s a downside also but stay concentrated on the positive & I always double check my math!

Knowing love & beauty& seeing it in unusual places. As a mother of 3 I joke that my most perfect creations are my children. They opened a door in my heart with the expanse of the universe.
My life started when I had them.

How would you describe your ideal client?

My ideal client loves the unusual. They feel emotion from my work & it brings them joy. They may like vivid color or neutral with texture. They trust that my happiness is connected with theirs.

NEVER share a picture of the painting before it’s finished! It’s too hard to fill in the blanks, and the client will be afraid !

Also, a bit of advise, get a CPA as soon as you can. Downside to my creativity is I sometimes get overwhelmed with the business side.
