Meet Jessie Gutierrez

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jessie Gutierrez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Jessie, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

When I first started my YouTube channel, imposter syndrome wasn’t a huge thing to me. Mainly because I was treating my channel as a hobby, and for years I just did it for fun, because I really enjoy the whole creative process behind making videos. Imposter syndrome popped up when I decided to take my channel seriously and attempt to really create a business with it. I remember the first event I got invited to come vlog was a haunted hayride at a local farm for their media night. I felt like such an imposter! I only had a couple hundred subscribers and I felt like “Who am I to show up as media when I don’t even have 500 subscribers??” And to be honest, I still struggle with imposter syndrome today. I hesitate to tell people I’m a content creator or mention my channel, because even though I’ve been on YouTube for years, I’ve only been taking it seriously for about a year and I still only have the subscribers and views of someone who’s just starting out. So it sometimes makes me feel like a faker! But you know what, I just keep showing up. I do it anyway. I went to that media night anyway. I felt like an imposter, but I went. And it ended up being a great event and I had an amazing time! The video I created was really good, and I even got invited back the following year. I know that I’m doing a good job and I believe in my channel and that pushes me on. I don’t know if imposter syndrome ever actually goes away, I hope it does. But whether it does or doesn’t I’m going to just keep showing up! And remembering to “fake it til you make it” also really helps!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I have a YouTube channel where I mainly vlog the fun experiences I get up to with my family! I adore going fun places, trying new yummy foods, and just experiencing new things, and I love getting to share those fun experiences with others! I started my channel a few years ago, before I had kids, but I firmly believe that living life to the fullest shouldn’t stop when you have babies. My husband and I now have a 2 year old daughter and twin 1 year old baby girls and we take them with us everywhere! I love getting to share these experiences with them and I hope to foster a love for travel (and theme parks!) in them too. And also maybe give a little confidence to other moms out there that you can still be yourself, and enjoy your life, all while bringing your kids along! My channel is filled with wholesome family fun and I hope that those who watch my videos are having a good time right along with us!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I think the three qualities/skills that were the most impactful to my journey are being intentional, confidence, and optimism. You have to be intentional about what you want in life in order to get it. That goes for how you use your time, where you put your energy and what you focus on. You also have to have the confidence to believe in yourself and what you’re doing, even when you sometimes feel like a failure! And you have to be optimistic and believe that you CAN achieve what you’re hoping to achieve! I think developing and honing these qualities and skills is so important and something that you just have to keep working on. Do the things you say you’re going to do and you will build confidence in yourself. Read books and watch content that help you feel more positive and optimistic. Keep learning! You see more of what you focus on so focus on things that will build you up and add quality to your life and your business.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

My husband Emmanuel! We’ve been married for 12 years and he has always been behind me 1000%. Every time I have needed a reminder that I can create a successful channel, he has been there to make me feel that it is possible. He has helped me understand how things work, he researches ways I can make my content better and my channel grow. He makes sure I get time to edit videos and I wouldn’t be able to film most of my content if he wasn’t there to take over with the babies while we’re out. He’s also the best tech guy and just all around everything I need him to be to help make my channel the best it can be. Any success I have in this life, my channel or otherwise, is also his. To say I am thankful for him is an understatement!
